Bio-fuels

Post by derdle » Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:38 pm

As from midnight toinight 2.5% of our fuel sould be derived biofuel...ie derived from food. By 2010 this has to be 5%

Food is for people and animals/livestock to eat not for conversion into fuel.

Is anyone producing a sticker that says "I don't want bio-fuel" or similar?

Just seems to be part of the rush to be seen to be green.

Although when there are already food shortages in some parts of the world, it doesn't make sense to be turning it into fuel and pushing food prices up as well.

Have you any links to the source of this info derdle? Certainly interesting and not something I'd read elsewhere yet.

Anyone watch Newsnight last night on BBC2? Food riots occurring on 3 continents, price of wheat doubled in 1 year .... sobering stuff.

And they didn't even mention the freshwater shortages ....

Collapse is imminent!

I think this type of stuff plays right into the hands of people like Blower - no doubt in their minds a famine of biblical proportions (and the subsequent wars, genocides, disease and suffering) is our well-deserved and just punishment from 'The Almighty' for our innumerable sins. They thrive on this - it reaffirms their beliefs. Unfortunately for them though the fact is that they too will perish, irrespective of their piety and unflinching faith in the mercy of 'The Lord' and that "he" will save them because they are "good".

takes <beep> loads of water to make a small amount of biofuel..the cost deffo outways the gains...
on talk sport last nite there was lord nigel lawson (ex chancellor) and a scientist..both stating that this whole climate/global stuff is crap..
lord lawson has a book out all about this..
they mention summit about climate credits...and that this is now classed as a new type of religion..people are being brained washed into believing it..

Climate change is the latest gravy train in the scientific community, most of what is said is total utter b*llocks IMHO.

However I cannot argue with the publicity it is creating and if that leads to conserving our limited recourses and steps to reduce the amount of damage we are causing to the environment then all well and good.

Interesting this BIO fuel debate and I think the point made about the rapidly escalating costs of basic foods does raise the question if we cannot feed people why the f*ck are we using food to create fuel!

Another rather troubling point is that large areas of central America are being deforested to grow 'bio' crops and the carbon emissions generated by this deforestation will far out way any gains from not using carbon based fuels - go figure. I have read a report that suggests the benefits of the bio fuel generated will take between 3/400 years to offset the carbon emissions!
