Accelerates like a lambo - feels like a lambo ;-)

Post by opelkid » Sun Apr 13, 2008 7:17 pm

After some detective work and some shopping around on ebay managed to get Alcantara flat bottom s/wheel. Wheel is also available in Carbon Fibre
or Leather (it's a Lambo/Momo part).

Airbag is from an A8 but S4 has a single firing mechanism and new type airbags have a dual firing mechanism so airbag not connected at moment.
Have any of you B7 s/wheel conversions boys connected the firing
mechanism in any way ?

Like that a lot...would certainly go with my gear knob! Any links to where you got the rim?

Got lucky on fleabay me thinks.

Needs some homework with Momo (although it probably made under licence).

Alternatively visit your local Lambo dealer to see if there is a spring sale :-(

Maybe the nicest wheel, but would you put your life at risk over a bit of style?

I certainly wouldn't. I wanted to do this from day one, but the airbag aspect totally put me off it.

Looks awesome none the less

That looks really nice. Has to be the nicest wheel anyone has fitted.

I'd have thought so. You might need a B7 (or similar) airbag control module, possibly an electronic interface and at least a certain amount of re-wiring.

From reading other threads on this (B7 wheel into B5) the airbag control modules are different (single vs two stage) hence I imagine you will need to replace the module. BUT I don't know if the control module will work with other modules in your B5, I don't have the wiring digrams for A/S/RS4s so can't be much more help.

If you are a computer geek like me then it's like sticking the wrong version of a DLL in your application and still expecting it to work, chances are it won't without further work.

CheeRS!

Lol... geek here, I getcha.

DOUG - I think people will pay money if you can do this conversion.

However, who is going to drive into a wall at silly speed to find out if the bag works?

Yeah, at least if you hit that wheel you'd be cushioned by the alcantara, besides how many kit/old/momo'd cars have airbags?

I have a TT MkII wheel with dual stage airbag, and I will install it to B5 S4 when I have time. I'm planning to connect the two ignitors together. Let's see hot it works... (and I know about the correct resistance issue)
