OK, sounds like I should shop around. I went with Noel Dazely for the last 2 years as they were a LOT cheaper than the others I tried. I don't want to go Elephant because they don't insure the mods themselves, and presumably Admiral are the same.

Who is currently offering good deals for PROPER COVER of modded cars?
2001 Silver S4 Avant
AmD remap, APR R1 DVs, APR bipipe, Full Miltek exhaust
H&R coilovers, AWE DTS, Porsche front brakes, Short-shifter, 18" RS4 replicas
Defi-HUD boost gauge / turbo-timer (with afterrun pump modification), Phatbox

Greenlight Insurance, Neil is one of the main guys there. He has always been helpful and does not mind answering questions.

Give Greenlight a call - 01277 263080.

Ask them to start sponsoring the site again too!

I was also with Noel Dazely for the last two years but they simply could not match my quotes this year.

Dippy, ex crew and not checking the insurance sticky thread!!

If you are over 28, have at least 2 years NCD and have experience of a similarly high power car (not an issue for existing owners then) you can get this policy, it's what I currently have (through A-Plan) - £450 before I added on additional hire car stuff etc:

Like for like cover on mods.

Greenlight gave an OK quote, Noel Dazely were cheaper and A-Plan came in way cheaper (again) than both while retaining the cover I wanted.

Thanks Graham. How have you valued your car - with or without the mods?

I'm with Adrian Flux, and the renewal for me has gone down since adding all the mods. (£780 - down to £750 by shopping around and haggling). Like for like cover on mods, protected NCB, 3rd party other cars and a lower xs. Bargain.

I have still to get a quote for the 700 hp, but I have great faith in them not skinning me for it, last year when I upgraded from 460 to 550 they came back and said "If you can handle 460, we are sure you can handle 550" and did not change the premium!!!!! If Carlsberg made insurance companies ??? btw, its Greenlight, who I believe are sponsors here ...
I renewed juts a couple months ago...

Premium halved and power went up from 440 to 500.

Guys, I have a Motor trade through Trade Ex. I'm 27 and it covers me on up to 10 cars with a limit of £15,000 repair of my car per claim. This covers the modifications on my cars ( MK 2 Golf with GTI engeneering RE2000 2L convertion and body kit, MK 1 Cabrio with 16V engine and my S4 (USR4)
I pay £700 per year for this and am insured to drive any car. I'm happy to pay this to insure all 3 cars with the mods included.
The only down side is they value the car at trade price.

I went through Academy insurance in Swindon - 01793 521333
or I guess you could look at trade ex's web site.
http://www.tradexinsurance.co.uk/

Hope this might help.
Tim
