The TVWIZ.net site posted earlier in this thread gives details (as I recall) for downloading the Nov 2001 version and also for loading it.
I would just mention that that doesn't seem to be the latest version. I'm sure my RS6 has a later firmware installed, but I'm not aware of any functional differences. I wonder whether there's a repository somewhere where the current firmware version can be obtained?

Me too, I've got later in my RS 6 than I had in the S8, despite not noticing any difference in functionality. This makes me wonder if Blaupunkt/Bosch work the code on a continual improvement basis, and there's even later versions out there somewhere.

No idea. You should be getting road numbers at present though.

No, the compass is a seperate screen. Take a look at the web site as I think it shows it somewhere on there.

You need to upgrade the firware first, which is the download/create cd/update firmware palava.
The actual nav disk is a different thing, and if you get the latest one you simply swap it for the current one. Just changing the nav disk won't give you the 50m res or the compass though, it just has more roads, garags, etc on it.

I downloaded the file last night, but my laptop doesn't have EZCD on it at present, and is not man enough to run Nero. My desktop is packed up at present so I still haven't got it sorted

I'm just south of Guildford mate, and Bromley is around 40minutes drive away from me.
I'm off to the Nurburgring on my bike this coming weekend, so will give you a shout when I get back if that is okay.

I'll have to resist starting the car half way through then
How long does it normally take to do the update - 30 minutes or so ?

Cheers,
John.

takes 30-40 mins but seems longer when just sitting there looking at the screen.i got itchy feet and decided to drive, but starting the engine crashed the system.
all in good working order now though, but really not much different from the old version just some gadgets, and yes has got the full screen compass.i like that.
met a few of the guys at donnington sunday,i was suprised how few cars actually had sat nav,i wouldn't be without it now.
by the way on m1 lost it for about 20 mins screen said no route, there was no destination time or route just mileage to destination in centre of clocks, but had satelites.have you experienced this.
as for the disk just give me a shout, ill pm you my no.
we need to organise a route disk for germany unless you have one?

nope not lost the route while driving, althouh I have had a couple of times where it has said no disk inserted on startup.

Haven't got a german disk. I was tempted to buy the latest 'plus' pack (I think) that comes with european major routes included.
Its either that or do an off-site backup from someone for the cost of a few beers.

I too was surprised about how many cars had satnav+ but it was after all a very expensive option when new. I wouldn't be without it either now. Wish my other cars had it...

john i think you mean how few cars have sat nav
i dont mind buying a few pints if you can locate one.
as for the nav just lost it on m1,pulled in the services stoped navigation and started again but still said no route.although it still showed my position + destination and mileage to destination on speedo clock.then after a few miles woke up,maybe it could not read my cd. I have, going South on the M1. The M1 was shown, and my little car position indicator was in roughly the right place, but the blue line kept 'seeking' to the nearest small grey road next to the M1. Went on for about 20 miles, then I cancelled route and restarted it, and it did it for a few more minutes then started behaving normally.

I suspect some Tele Atlas CDs have some kind of data error on that leg of the M1, this was a 2002 DX CD in the S8 days. Haven't been that way in the RS yet, so can't vouch for the 2003 DX CD.

There is a spot on the M25 near Heathrow where my Ipaq sat nav wanders sideways onto a side road and after 1 mile wanders back again..

I have obtained a 2003 copy of the UK DX disk
It works a reat, complete with postcode entry and what seems to be faster route updating (when you take a different route to that initially shown).

For those of you off to Hockenhiem, he also has the latest
Benelux, Northern Germany, Whole of Germany, France, and Poland.
If anyone would like an 'off-site backup' copy, PM me for details.
It is not me creating the copies, I merely brought one, so please don't shoot the messenger.

Cheers all,
