Oil Change

Post by Spoof » Thu Mar 27, 2008 8:05 pm

The S4 is going to get used on track a bit in the next few months and has a trip to Italy in June, so a couple of oil changes will be on the cards.

I have found that after my Nurburgring trip, it has a bit of a thirst for Edge 5W30 so I have decided to change to a slightly different grade.

Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 seems to fit the VW specs fine, but has anyone had any experience with a thicker oil?

Anything different when changing the oil to a normal car? any special Audi tools?

Secondly, has anyone managed a DIY gearbox oil change on an Auto? Done plenty of searches and come up with various answers.

Thanks.

Chris.

I am using for a while Mobil 1 0w40 without any problem.
So as long as it complies with VW503.01 spec (or even VW503.00 if you change it more often than recommended in Europe) it should be Ok.

I currently use Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 and have just returned to Germany from Blighty, 1400 miles, and the oil level has not budged. If your considering doing a couple of oil changes and the mileage is low then 5w-40 should be fine. I use that grade becasue I do few miles, 6000p/a, and it was recommended by Guy from Opie Oils.

The only difference to other cars is the position ofthe oil filter. its on top of the engine at the back.
