Try 950 notes as a new car salesroom tax had been added.neckarsulm wrote:cheers boxterdogted - so it was ?190 and now ?205
288 g/km puts it well into the infamous band G of gas guzzlers which is 225 g/km >
Presumably a new RS4 would be in this band and would cost ?300 to tax.
As somebody said elsewhere lets enjoy these cars while we can
It seems after re-reading this thread that not many people have actually understood what the new VED banding mean for us.
Either that ir we've all got too much money

Anyway here are the facts:
• Six new VED bands by 2009
• New Band M for most polluting cars
• New first-year 'showroom tax'
Road tax will be restructured to incorporate six new VED bands from 2009, which will increase the financial difference between the most and least polluting cars.
There will also be a new top VED band (band M) for cars with CO2 emissions of 255g/km or more.
Further VED changes included:
• Reducing the standard rate of VED in 2009-10 for all new and existing cars that emit 150g/km of CO2 or less and increasing the standard rate of VED on the most polluting cars to £425.
• From 2010-11, extending the zero rate of VED to all new cars that emit 130g/km of CO2 during the first year of ownership.
• Introducing a new first-year rate of £950 for new, high CO2-emitting cars.
• Aligning the alternative fuel and standard rates of VED in 2011.
The Government says the majority of motorists will be no better or worse off as a result of these reforms.

Interesting... "The Government says the majority of motorists will be no better or worse off as a result of these reforms" - am I the only one to think, 'what the f*@k are they messing with it for then???"

I'd have thought the current ridiculous tax on fuel would be enough as high CO2 cars are always low MPG cars so we are being penalised already, why link it to VED too unless it's to line the governent's pockets?
I don't think any political party would act differently to Labour - they all see green issues as vote winners and more importantly a good revenue earner - just look at the roads, 95% of cars are what I'd call non-petrolhead cars and these drivers don't care that much because they aren't in the 5% like we are and probably glad us flash b*stards are having to pay more - what a lot of people don't realise (or not until they renew their tax disc) is that these changes increase the tax on a lot of mainstream mid sized cars too - not just your typical 4x4 etc gas guzzlers.
Our only hope is that the whole CO2 vs polar ice caps bullsh1t is disproven by some scientists but then again fossil fuels wont be around much longer so we are f**ked either way.
I do hope someone somewhere has worked out that if the earth is warming up, we will need to use our central heating less, which means less energy used and less Co2 production but I am yet to hear that argument on the news
