vag-com, ... quick question

Hi all,

just a quick question, i am looking to to buy vag-com for my rs,
would like to double check which one is the correct one

VAG-COM License with KEY-USB Interface

VAG-COM License with KEY-COM Interface

Either will work fine. It all depends if you want a USB interface or Serial Port version. Does your laptop have a serial port?

What version of the software do you need to download?

i`ll have t have a look at the back of the laptop to see , not used ti in a while,,

not sure what version to download ?? whats recommended for using with the b5 rs ?

me to... i am interested in vag com download butn where do I get the lead from?

I bought my key USB cable direct from Ross-Tech in the States, worth every penny:

Latest software is release 704.1 and available here:

Might be worth getting the CAN option if you are thinking long term and looking at newer cars in a few years time.

I run with version 409.1 (i think) and use a 20 quid cable of ebay which is fine but you are better off getting a gen cable for more of the features. Well worth the money.

It isn't really the cable that is expensive - you're paying for the licence key for the s/w as the cable acts as an activation dongle.
