Am I being robbed by Audi re Isofix retrofit?

Post by LondonRS6 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 1:15 pm

Had a chat with my local Audi dealership near work (Docklands area).

Audi are telling me they need to send the car for 2-3days to a coachworks company to bolt and weld the ISOFIX bracket.

I appreciate you dont want to cut corners on these fittings esp with your first newborn. But i am being quote north of £600 (inc VAT) for fitting 2 brackets. This seems extortionate...

I thought the bracket was bolted into the housing behind the rear seat bench bulkhead or am i being naive?

If anyone has had a similar experience in London, where did you go to get this fitting?

Forum members you help would be appreciated.

Yeah, me too. But I was just wondering if they actually weld them when factory fitted?

Sounds like a load of cobblers. If its the same as the RS4 then there are threads into the chassis for adding this, and its a half hour job.

I had ones fitted to mine. They were welded on rather than bolt on. To be honest, although our child seats fitted perfectly, they made a bit of a mess of the leather due to the seat grips pressing hard onto the seat. Make sure you put a good protection sheet between the seat and the sprog carrier!!
Were the Isofix an option or did they install them as standard for later builds?

Sounds like the stealer is ripping you off ! If you can take the bakc seats off you should see a pair of holes where the isofix brackets bolt onto. I had mine done by a dealer .... think was about £130 all in with parts. Fitting is a 15 min job.

I wouldn't go to all that expense, a properly fitted seat belt one will be just a safe, surely ?

Do they need welding or just bolting on though?

Dunno why. According to VAGCAT diagram below, the holes are in the chassis.

Do a search on here for ISOFIX and you'll see a few ppl have had it retrofitted at relatively low cost by the dealer, parts alone will cost ~£80

Docklands are having a laugh , I've fitted Isofix to my sisters A6 with leather ,which is the same floor pan as RS6. They bolt in and the bar plus bolts is about £28 a side for the rear. You can fit these yourself or better still ring me at Camberley Audi. Recommend Isofix for all child seats as there is 0% movement when fitted correctly unlike belt fitted child seats .
Stu.

The most disappointing thing about Audi ownership are the stealers!
