Just joined the club!

Post by MalcolmSu » Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:07 pm

Hi all

After months of lurking here reading all there is to know about RS6s and then searching for the right car I finally sucumbed at the weekend and bought my first RS6 having been a BMW fan for the past two cars...

It's an April 2004 model with 40k on the clock and a Listers warranty through to April 2009. I think I have the full service history and it seems to have had all the appropriate repairs (cambelt, etc) at the right times.. Only major (in terms of cost) items outside of that are a windscreen and alternator replacement.

I'm still wading my way through the manuals finding out all about what's a hugely complex car. I've loads of questions but for now any other Scottish forum members and can you recommend any of the Central Scotland Audi dealers for repairs/servicing? Min has only just had it's 40k service but I'd like to be prepared...

I know you guys always ask for pics so here goes - not great quality but it's a start.

Thanks for all your unwitting assistance in helping me choose my 'new' car.

a couple of quick questions...

i noticed a comment on the last service bill that the tyre sealing compound expires this month. Is this something i need to address straight away and can you only get it from Audi?

Also is there a list somewhere of what tools as standard should be in the boot? I couldn't find anything in the manual.

Thanks

Malcolm

actually found the answer myself - it is in the manual on page 252. Under "Tools" funnily enough.

loving the black. Welcome to the fold. You prob find the sealant is not a warranty issue and is an out of pocket job and costs a bomb.
RS6 (MRC'd with econodrive) is not just for Xmas

thanks for the welcomes folks - this week has been like Christmas all week! :D :D I've had a permanent grin.

From D to S to flappy paddles and through three tanks of super unleaded it's been a joy. It's more complicated than any car I've had before - it's taken me the week to work out what all the buttons do.

Found out today it has a phone kit for a Nokia 6310 and guess what i had lying around - an old Nokia 6310i so that's saved me a trip to the ICE shop... Works perfectly. The last button on the dash that I couldn't find in the manual I finally pressed this morning and out popped a sun blind from the rear parcel shelf! 8)

Thanks again...

Falkirk - nice car. Does it have tinted windows or is that just the dark picture? Tints was one of the items on my 'must have' list but I've ended up with blinds which are perhaps a more flexible option..

thanks - i haven't really seen many RS6s around Central Scotland. A friend in Lenzie used to have a Mugello Blue saloon but that's down south now after he sold it and bought a Maserati Quattroporte! The only other one I've seen recently is a Goodwood Green Avant around the centre of Glasgow...

a month and a half on i still step out of the car after every journey with a huge smile on my face...

With possible fuel shortages locally I spent today pussy footing around achieving 24mpg against my normal 21mpg - all that for another 3 miles. Back to normal tomorrow!

I can't help making comparisons between the RS6 and my previous 530 Beemer - mostly they are all v minor differences; things like audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel; auto lights in darkness; auto screen wipe when it rains. All things that despite the Beemer being 2 years older the RS6 doesn't have.

However my main gripe which is starting annoy me is when cruising on a straight piece of road or motorway. The Beemer would cruise along smoothly with just one finger on the steering wheel and the very occaisonal direction correction. I can't do that on the RS6 - even with one hand firmly grasping the steering wheel I seem to have to constantly make minor corrections to keep it on a straight line.

Is this just a fact of life from 4WD and large wheels / tyres? What's everyone else's experience?

.
