scuttle shake

Post by bishop » Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:00 pm

I picked up an 05 S4 cab on sunday, What a car....every thing i could have hoped for? Just a little disapointed in the scuttle shake, i thought i had seen the end of this with my VW cab i sold 10 years ago. Do all S4 and RS4 cabs suffer from this (presumably the RS is even worse?) is there any thing that will help?????
Also, it runs out of warranty in 6 weeks, is there anything i need to do/look at before?

What do you mean by scuttle shake?

Dunc
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

I have a 57 plate S4 B7 cab and I have to say it is the best cab I have had for scuttle, there is a little but not as much as some. What happens when you are suffering scuttle.
The reason I ask is I have had damper issues that have caused it in the past, does yours have a lot of miles on??

Hi, with scuttle shake i mean..because there is no fixed roof structure as in a coupe etc cabriolet's tend to flex when you go over uneven roads or pot holes etc. fat tires and low suspension make it all alot worse. my 05 model (pre face lift and pre redesigned suspension) only has 38000 miles so it shouldn't have damper issues yet (i think) but every time i hit a rut, pothole or even large cats eye i get shake, if i hit a large pothole the rear view mirror shakes so much i think it may fall off! I am putting it into Audi on Monday to give it a once over, knowing Audi they wont find anything until the warranty runs out(i am a little scepticall with Audi!!! after a previous issue).

Again, anything i should be aware of regarding issues??? I do seem to have a whine when it is cold but unlike the timing chain problem my whine is slight and is constant up to 4k revs?

Thanks
James

All four seater Cabs have scuttle shake. Two seaters like the TT and Boxster are negligible in comparison.
Maserati GranTurismo GTS Auto, S3 Sportback, TT2 3.2 Roadster, Disco3 for the heavy stuff.
