How does that work - I had to wait until I was 25 to buy my RS4 as they wouldn't insure me on it...

I do mine through company insurance. The company has all its insurance with one insurer, and so they dont want to lose the business. And plus its all done on excesses. I pay £1250 per year, plus a £1500 excess (god forbid).

Just to pre-empt the next question (Saloon vs Avant) here's one I prepared earlier...

Fed up of with MB then? C63 doesn't take your fancy?

That's quite a jump good on you. I take it the deal you will be getting will be a good'un!

Exactly the trouble I found. Insurance is my last hurdle. I ran quotes on the bell website (part of admiral) and they will insure me at 21 but they're the only one that will... Fingers crossed I can complete online. I had to backdate my age to get the quotes, Ie alter my DOB from april to feb because then it makes me 21 and it would let me proceed to the payment screen so all seems good :)

And Graham.. Fed up of the MB, I swear I will NEVER own another mercedes again, its the worst car I've had (I know that's not such a bad thing considering I've only had three total) however its been nothing but trouble from day one. It's the first car I've had since new and the service of Stratstone Mercedes dealers in my area is hurrendous. Don't get me wrong although its not the quickest car ever, for what it is... I have to admit it is a nice car.... when it works. The imperative word being WHEN. I've counted over ten issues with the car in the two years I've had it :(

But even if I would look at another. C63 is waaaaaaay out of budget. I'm talking '06 plate RS4, absolute maximum of £40k which pushes the E92 M3 out of the question also. The reason the RS4 is so affordable is because I work for a car finance broker I have access to trade price vehicles combined with finance interest rates lower than what a current account would pay ;) So in effect by financing the car I actually save money. I'm throwing six to seven grand into it to give me a headstart against depreciation and working on the future CAP values the residual of the RS4 is amazing mainly due to the fact audi said they would never make two RS models at the same time, for example run back to 2001 and the last RS4's they still sell for 22k ish and that's 4 and a half years older than an 06 reg so the cars I'm looking at will be depreciating somewhere around £16 - 18k.

Minus from that the 6 or 7k I throw into it and in effect I will only have to find 10-12k over the four years which isn't bad in comparison to the mercs ratio....

List price was 26k, I bought it new at 21.5k through work and its now worth 12 in the trade only TWO years later. £9500 in two years! That's more than what the RS will lose

How much are you paying then??? (I thought mine was pricey - yours must be worse...!?)

I'm actually embarrassed to say how much. All I can say in my defence is all I've ever wanted from the age of about 10 or 11 has been a performance car so realistically it's my only change before I have to delve into the realms of mortgages so erm... lets just say it's a few quid *blushes* and so is the excess!

Mate, no need to be embarrased here - my first car was a BMW 320i H reg; cost me £1800 and insurance cost me £4000 for the year!!!
I were't having no tin can as my first car - I wanted some power...

Like you, I've always wanted performance cars also - it's what you want to spend your money on; you earn it, spend it how you like, that's what I say

Okay now I actually feel much better about this one because that's pretty much what I've been quoted for the RS.

If anyone wonders, yes its all legit with me as the registered keep, main driver and policy holder with a 56 day ban SP30 code (but no points because they had no evidence against me bar a coppers word... long story, but young person + merc etc, you know the script!) and also with my girlfriend (21 and clean licence) and my mum (also clean licence) as named drivers came to approx £4k give or take a few quid with a large excess and on a ten month bonus accelerator scheme
