MAF revitaliser!
RE: MAF revitaliser!
my car seems a bit lumpy on idle, but seems to drive perfectly, will this help me??
RE: MAF revitaliser!
I have always used isapropal alchohl for cleaning mafs (same stuff used to clean cd's and cassette heads) you can buy it from the chemists for peanuts!

RE: MAF revitaliser!
Very good mate - but the point I was making is that you can get it in a pressurised spray can which aids in cleaning the sensor (easier and more effective than pouring IPA into a bag and giving it a 'bath' - which is what I've always had to do before)

RE: MAF revitaliser!
You use cotton buds to apply the ipa once you have removed the sensor from the tube!

RE: MAF revitaliser!
Aaaargh! Cotton buds - I killed a MAF sensor using one of them on it .... can be risky to actually touch the sensor with anything ...

RE: MAF revitaliser!
Cleaned loads of mafs this way with no issues you just have to make sure that the bud is coated in liquid its when they dry out you will have problems! The spary sounds like another perhaps easier way to do it though, think weve used electrical contact spray before as well.

RE: MAF revitaliser!
Yeah, I've heard this as well - as long as it's the stuff that doesn't leave a residue it should be ok. But I think pure IPA is best - leaves no residue at all.think weve used electrical contact spray before as well.

Wow - deja vu ...
P.S. I have actually used the 'IPA bath' method to clean the MAF sensor for the last 2 years nearly - I didn't know it came in spray-can form so posted this up to let folk know .... but like most things in life; someone's always been there, seen it and done it before you

Just done mine - top tip Jules
Got rid of most of the 'lumpiness' and hesitation on part throttle, although the MAF was only 6 months' old
Time for another FATs run, methinks...
Also cleaned out the little pool of oil deposited at the mouth of the y-pipe referred to by Jules.
I've read about the IPA 'bath' method before but never bothered with it. But I'd recommend taking the time out to do this - well worth the effort.
Oh, and it's cheaper oop north - only £7.28 - so I'm thinking about doing a bit of arbitrage and shipping a few cases darn sarf...just £7.59 to you chaps, save 40p!!
