Newbie - Sat nav Question

Post by Terzo333 » Wed Jan 23, 2008 10:30 am

Morning.

As of Saturday 19th I became the proud owner of a Sprint Blue, 06/06 RS4 :D I bought it from Fontain Motors in Iver.

I absolutley love the car, but was just wondering if the Sat Nav can be upgraded so I can do a postcode search ?

If so where would the best place to get the DVD's.

I have other questions but can't think of them right now...

I'm from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, anyone else in the area ?

Matt

I don't believe you can upgrade, but would be interested to know if you can too. I'm from West Yorkshire.

You can do a partial postcode serach on the RNS-E, i.e. put the first part of the cose in and then the number of the second part. But then it asks you what road you want and number.

Only upgrade avaialble is the nav disks themselves, if on your display at the bottom it has 'TMC' displayed in blue box and not crossed out you will have the 2007 discs at least, 2008 disks have just come out but I doubt you'll have been fortunate enough to get them as IIRC they are not generally availabe to dealers as yet.

I find the partial postcode search very accurate as long as you know the road. I don't miss having to put in the full postcode.

It's a partial postcode search, even using the 2008 DVDs.

DVD's officially can only be bought at an Audi dealer, but they're also available on eBay and on some websites (make sure you get RNS-E DVDs and NOT MMI DVDs - they won't work in your RS4).

Not sure if there 2008 but I had had new DVDs for about 6 months FOC from the dealers which resolved the TMC issues.

They're the 2007_1 DVD, the 2008 DVD is not yet available from dealers in the UK.

When the 2008 discs come out it would be interesting to know if there is any improved functionality or just atlas updates.

By the way Leeds (not to far from HG!!)

Forgive my technology limitations;

I have TMC disabled- if it was not what would it do?
Can you just buy the 2007 DVD from a dealer?

There's some minor map updates.

The improved functionality found so far is:

- MIX bug fixed (when in MIX mode pressing the FF button now leaves MIX turned on).

- Aux In added (by recoding the RNS-E), so you can now have a TV, a DVD, a CD changer and an audio Aux In.

- it's rumoured that the 400/512 file limit on SD cards might have been increased but this is not confirmed yet.

- the RNS-E now accepts a coding which generates an error message about the DAB tuner not being present - hinting that a DAB tuner MIGHT become available.

If TMC was not enabled you would see a crossed out TMC symbol at the bottom of the display. Enabling is simply a matter of inserting a TMC capable DVD and letting the SW update happen.

Yes. But why would you want to? The 2007 DVD has been superceded by the 2007_1 DVD and the 2008 DVD.

As well as from a dealer you can get the DVDs from eBay or from specialist Audi sat nav sellers on other websites.
