New job! Comes with a car allowance...

Post by rikrose » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:10 pm

Now.. what am I going to spend it on?

* looks at B5 S4 *

Oh yeah.

I just wonder how much I'll have after tax, and what Doug's going to do with it. I mean.. uh.. what I'm going to do with it...

If you're getting a car allowance, t should simply be added to your salary and then treated as normal salary as far as both income tax and NI is concerned.
The Revenue website has a "calculator" which enables you to owrk out net pay given your gross pay and tax code etc....

Get a better accountant, you idiot.

Speak to Simple1, he knows how to do it!
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The 60% that's left. :D

Obviously, not as good as 100%, but better than 2%.

Can't fault your maths there Rik. My point was that you lose nearly half of the allowance before you've started ... that's what really grips my <beep>!

Yeah. I've done the maths, and it's enough to keep me interested. Especially, I'll be able to afford to actually do things to the car. Officially, I can rent certain kinds of cars (of which I have a spreadsheet), and contribute a little extra if the allowance doesn't cover it. I can also get a bus/train pass. I can also spend the money on my own car. Since I'll be spending time in Seattle, and otherwise working from home, and an S4 or RS4 isn't on the list, I'm going to spend the money on my own S4 :)
