Audi S3 rattles.
Audi S3 rattles.
Hello there, many Audi S3 owners are aware that the car does have some rattles here and there.
Here are some of the rattles my car makes and probably some solutions.
*Driver & Passenger door, near the up/down lock lever - To be investigated.
*Rattle near drivers instrument cluster - Fixed, inside the fuse area there
was a fuse removing tool which was not correctly cliped in.
*Front armrest with cup holders - Possibly fixed, pending a test run.
Below is the modification i used to dampen the cup holder springs:-
You will require the following and the cup holder unit (part no. 8L0 862 533 B AQ4)
The cup holder unit will have to be removed carfully.
2x strips of black tape (approx 2.0" each)
2x pieces of card custom cut to fit under cupholders (approx 1-1.5" each)
2x strips of sponge (approx 2.5" each)
See pic1.

Re: Audi S3 rattles.
As you can see from pic2 the OEM cup holders have springs in them which allow free movement
of the cup holder pressure slots.
But when the cup holders are not in use there is some play in the plastic construction so this
is where the dampening is required.

Re: Audi S3 rattles.
Gentley push one side of the sponge into the gap surrounding the spring system, and then the other
make sure it is firmly in place.

Re: Audi S3 rattles.
Finally check the spring units and make sure there is enough sponge to allows suffient dampening
but also that is doesnt jam.
Now cut the card into pieces so they fit over the sponge/sping area`s, this is to ensure that the sponge
does not pop out after continues use.
Use some black tape to finally secure the card into place and now you have the RIZ-MODDED OEM cupholders.

Re: Audi S3 rattles.
Just been out for a extensive drive over some bumpy roads which used to make the cup holders rattle.... all gone now!
Yippe ive made something that actually works!

Re: Audi S3 rattles.
I have a rattle in my passenger side door trim, it seems to stem from near the bose speaker area. Problem is, I cannot remove the mpadded backing to really pack it with foam.. Anyone know how to remove this?

Re: Audi S3 rattles.
Are you talking about the whole door interior bit?
Its easy to take off and you should use sponge and cut it to pad out the rattles, be careful that it doesnt interfior with the electric windows.
