First service costs
First service costs
The car is booked into the local dealership for its first service on Monday. It is currently set to variable servicing and I have been quoted £370 - does this sound about right? Previously I have been quoted £120 for an oil/filter change so can't see what the extra is with this. The car is a 56 plate with 10k. Although the car says the service is not due for another 40 days/ 5000k miles I need to get a number of things sorted so want to get them all done in one visit.
I am also in two minds as to whether to get it set to fixed intervals while in - what is the general consensus with this? I do well under the average mileage each year....
Others things being looked at are a leaking boot lid, funny noise and feel in the steering at full lock/slow speed and poor performance when cold for the first couple of miles - all of which have been noted by many others on here.
What got to me when I explained the last two points to the guy was the 'yeah, they all do that' comment and expression - they blo*dy shouldn't!!!

RE: First service costs
worth asking another dealer to quote, that is on the steeper side of a first service, I also supplied my own oil purchased from opie oils with a forum discount.. I got 2L spare for about £35 less than dealer charging so in reality saving a good £50-£60 just on oil... mine was £290 with them supplying oil, they took £130 off that when I supplied the oil that cost me £99 delivered next day I think??

RE: First service costs
Same here - got my oil from Opie, and the dealer charged me £140 for the service all in.

Cheers guys - how many litres do i need to order for a full change?
RE: First service costs
its about 9.5 - 10 but order 12 litres from Opie and have a couple spare, I think they send me 2 x 4L and 4 x 1L
RE: First service costs
Is this what most people use?

Bail out, bail out, bail out.
Do I have to wait for you to say it three times.......

RE: First service costs
I think most cars are delivered with Edge, but Fuchs Titan seems to be the most popular (and best?) choice at oil-change...
Like others, I recommend Opie for whatever oil you choose

RE: First service costs
I used the Castrol Edge, ordered 3 x 4 litres, so I've got a couple of litres spare for top-ups.

RE: First service costs
I paid £321 for a first AVS service at Southampton Audi - so £370 is a silly price.
Gone: 2006 B7 RS4 Avant (Phantom Black)
£321 to £490 seems a ridiculous variance seeing a third of the cost is the oil - is this just regional variations due labour rates?
Just curiousity as I am on a laughably cheap Audi fixed cost maintenance plan so all this is paid for.
I have the judder on slow full lock steering but have also heard it is a "feature" rather than an issue. Let us know what they say about it.

Judder on full lock is normally a "feature" of high performance cars. As you apply lock the wheel cambers over and the tyre ends up running right on its shoulder (appply full lock, then get out of the car and look at how far the wheel leans over). As the tyre moves around the circle it pushes sideways against the shoulder tread-blocks of the tyre. These tread blocks flex as far as they can, and then spring back into shape, causing that shudder. Almost all Porsches do this, and the RS4 does it exactly the same. Obviously the type of tyre and road ruface make a difference to how noticable this "feature" is.
Basically, it's normal......

I think you got mugged there! My 1st service would have been £280 inc if they had supplied the oil, £140 inc with me supplying the oil. That was at Tonbridge Audi.
