ignition problem

Post by s4bandit » Tue Jan 08, 2008 3:17 pm

hi guys

recently been experiencing a slight ignition problem
put the key in, turn on, wait for ok then turn again to start
and nothing happens for maybe 1 second and then the car starts
its happended maybe 10 times in 2 weeks but this morning
when i went to start, nothing happened at all, ( after the ok i mean )
so i went back to switch off, turned on , waited for ok and this time it started.
think the problems getting worse, bit worried it might not start at all next time.

any one else had and fixed this problem before ?

cheers

Yep, sounds just like a failing starter motor, had exactly same symptoms

A similar scenario was happening just before my battery died but not as regular as stated above.

Mine never completely failed but it got progressively worse - and it sounds like yours is pretty bad if it's not turning over at all sometimes. Cost was about £125 + VAT plus fitting.

If it doesn't turn at all again before you get it replaced, try jolting the car back & forwards as quickly as you can, it worked for me on one occasion!

Hi mate

Our car has had the same problem in the last 4 weeks. It's probably only happened once a week. Doesn't seem like a starter fault to me on mine but could be wrong. There's nothing you can do apart from wait for it to go.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

i would say a couple of times a week on average, seems to happen more when its really cold
i'll let you know if it gets any worse
