Nav Plus Without TV Tuner?

Post by polly_x » Sat Jan 05, 2008 1:54 am

Hi, new to here but will be picking up an RS4 (B5) in the next couple of days. Car has Nav Plus (RNS-D). It does not go into TV mode when you press the CD/RADIO/TV button. Can I assume it just does not have a tuner fitted?

To add TV, is it just as simple as getting a tuner unit for this model and pluuging it in? Is the wiring likely to be there? I assume it sits in the back above the 6 CD Unit?

Thanks,

Hi polly x
Nav Plus does come with TV tuner - I have an RS4 B5 also with Nav Plus & TV tuner...

What actually happens when you do change it to that mode? Do you get a complete blank screen or do you get TV / Video in the top left corner but no display???

I would imagine it just switches between radio and CD. The same thing happened to me when I bought mine. I had to replace the aerial distribution box and the diversity receiver. Turned out that water was being driven in under the roof aerial when travelling at speed in the rain. This was travelling down the cable and into the equipment inside the rear quarter panel. The aerial is now sealed up.

Might be worth checking.

As Jarv says about, yes it just switches between CD and Radio, Not CD, TV and Radio.

I will do some digging so see if anything is damaged.

According to the price list, the TV Tuner was an extra option on top of the SatNav. Check the options list on the car. There should be a sticker somewhere in the boot listing the colour and options codes fitted to the car. Graham

Do you have the TV diversity receiver box located in the rear quarter panel? It's the black box above the CD changer in this photo.

Sorry for the delay! Just picked the car up last night!! Well pleased with it to say the least. Its a mint original car with low miles and nice colour etc so very happy after looking for ages!!!

Right, back to my issue. There is a big gap above the CD changer so I guess the tuner is missing.

I need to have a look behind the panel, but do you think the wiring will all be there and just a case of connecting the correct tuner? Do you think the Nav plus will just recognise it and will work OK?

Does it use the normal roof aerial for its reception too?

Sorry.....Loads of questions but would like to get this working if possible.

Let me know if you want to get one, I've mine on my RS4 B5 fitted but since Switzerland has all TV in TNT mode my tuner is not working at all.
Cheers

Cheers, might take you up on that offer. I have the Tuner and the Main Harness sorted but may need the aerial amps and switcher.
