In a word, noise. When I was weighing up the options, I gave Milltek a ring, they were very helpful. Apparently, there are no performance gains between resonated and non-resonated, it's just the non-res system is louder. I went for the resonated, and it sounds sweet. I also have had the pre-cats gutted, which makes it slightly louder as well.

I personally don't see the point of extra noise with no performance gain, but you pay your money and you make your choice.

Milltek cat-back, gutted precats and custom remap equates to around 450, and shed loads of torque. When I got all that done to mine I could not believe the difference between this and the standard set-up. Chalk and cheese.

what is involved in gutting the pre cats is it a specialist job;what you said sounds pretty ausome to me,how much should i expect to pay for the remap. by the way 2000 RS4 SILVER totally standard (so far).john

I would give MRC (Doug) a call, they could do the whole job for you and come highly recommended by a lot of us. I dont think there is anything scientific in removing the material from the precats but i know that the down pipes are a bugger to get to.

The is one thing i can guarantee is if your car is standard now, with the cat back Milltek gutted precats and a custom remap you will be grinning all the way home. :D

With the resonated milltek you dont get a droney noise sitting on the motorway at 70-80mph, this can be very annoying if you go for the resonated IMHO.

Gutting the Precats involves removing both down pipes, and removing the precats in the top of the down pipe. By doing this you are left with just the 2 main cats (1 in each down pipe) so you wont have any issues getting through an MOT.

Remaps on the RS4 differ from company and type, generic remaps are around £550, they offer better performance and is a map that is generic for all RS4's (B5), custom remaps are around £650, they offer far better performance, and is custom for your car and personal requirements.

:D well chuffed with all the response, certainly a lot of brains to pick from out there ;one more question though how much do i loose if i just fit the exhaust without doing the cats, will i gain anything, will it still sound good, more importantly how easy are they to fit ie do they fit spot on or is it a case of beating the s**t out of it. (think that was more than one question) thanks again john

My non resonated is fine at motorway speeds, if you check with Milltek i think they changed the design of the rear sylencer to cure this,
