Hi Liam,

I started a poll on the same theme some time ago here:

http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... fuel+grade

Its a funny one because I couldnt really tell the difference until I changed back after running on standard and I 'think' the beast did run smoother but it could be psychological??!!!!

I ended up changing back to Vpower but cringe every time I fill up - "just have a couple less pints at the weekend" is what I tell myself!!

It also does say in the manual that it shouldnt be run on standard fuel - only in emergencies!!

Cheers,
Lig.

Used to be 97, but now only vPower will do. :-)

I use Tesco 99 or V-power...for the extra £4 - £5 a tank it is not worth worrying about in my mind

I don't even look at the price any more. It could be £50 per litre but it's too heavy to push. :)

I do Tescos99 or Vpower ........ Although when i first bought it i used normal 95 RON for a week or too before the requirement for 98 was pointed out, and there was a noticeable difference in power, and also fuel economy. I use mine up and down the motorway every week, and i can average about 25 - 26 MPG on Vpower (this is hovering at approx 80mph. I know for a fact i never got this using 95.

i run mine on a mixture of vodka, methanol and urine. Works out about 30p a litre

But seriously tho you should not run the rs on anything below 97 ron. It can cause damage. The car is tunned to run on high octane fuel. Especially if you have a re-mapped ecu running more boost etc, you stand a chance of even melting valves etc.
I found out the hard way in my last car that was running massive power. Could not get any super plus and ran out of fuel pulling into a petrol garage. Filled it up with enough 95 ron to get to the next garage and give in some out of the petrol garage. 20 seconds later i was running on 5 pistons and had some melted valves.

The only option I have locally is Sanibury's Superunleaded or BP (which is 5p a litre dearer)

Is it worth the extra 5p for BP?

If yours has a re-mapped ecu i would suggest you only use shell or bp super as a second best. If your car is standard i think i would settle for the cheaper fuel providing it is 97ron+

I always run my B5 RS4 on V. Power but the other day I treated my wife's A3 TDI to V. Power diesel - now that is expensive. Seemed to run quite smoothly on it.
