Yes, the Nav + system does have additional A/V inputs to which you can connect a separate DVD player. A good site for info is web page

Just having a wander around this site you've posted a link to Peter.
It now has me wondering if I have C or D navi in my RS4...

I cannot get a compass to display (which suggests its a C navi) but the map does update when I deviate from the recommended route (which would suggest the D navi).

So, which one am I likely to have ???

Err, okay, found the answer to one of those.

I obviously don't have the 15th Nov 2001 update in my nav system (which gives the compass).

Not sure on the RS4, but for the A4, the later unit was fitted from May 2001 onwards.

Haven't had time to check the version of software yet, but it definitely comes up saying Satnav+, which I think indicates that my RS4 has the later D version.

Just posting this for info, incase anyone else wanted to know

I'm not convinced about that. Satnav is the standard, non LCD screen, system - just using the legends in the DIS. The + adds the lcd screen in the centre console. So, the full-screen version has always been called Satnav+ - whether it always described itself as such on the startup screen, I'm not sure.

You might be right, as what you say is my understanding too.
However, from the above site it sort of implies that the C system says Radio Navigation System, and not SatNav Plus, unless the screen shots shown are actually for the standard Satnav (not seen standard satnav working, so wouldn't know).

Curiosity got the better of me. Just been out to my car and had a look
Software versions are Dec14 2000 for the Nav, and oct 7 1999 for the TMC.

Since I have a TMC, doesn't this also imply it is a D-Navi system ??

Anyway, I also took a look at the sys files on the map CDRom (as the site suggests when creating map disks), and this confirms that I have a "Typ D CAN-Product"

Now all I need to do is to get the updated software and install it

That sounds like a reasonable conclusion. What I should have said earlier is that the discs for the old system should be marked 'TravelPilot', and the newer ones are 'TravelPilot DX'. The discs are not interchangeable.

lol

Well. My CDRom says TravelPilot in fairly small writing down the bottom of it but no sign of DX anywhere on the disk

Strikes me that this whole thing is a bit of a minefield...

Anyway, anyone have the latest 2003/2004 GB disk, or the Euro main routes disk ?
I'd like to offer the ability to store an 'off-site backup' (for a small fee of course )

funny that ive been looking for a 2003/2004 GB Dx disk

no avail, unless you bend the plastic to the tune of £89 for the standard or £109 for the special edidition cd.

Unsure of my current version as i was supplied a CDR as it came with a german disk. mines an import.

new ones do postcodes and house numbers and mine doesnt.

plus mines been off in a few places. not by much, but the odd instruction now and again.

My CD definitely says TravelPilotDX down towards the bottom right of the label. Also, just noticed that when there's no disc loaded, the screen asks for a 'TravelPilot DX' disc.

yep, so does mine ask for a DX disk but mine doesn't say it is ( just been out to check).
Under the settings menu (Mode->settings) there is a version info button.
It says H/W is RNS4.1, and S/W is 0015.

Without a shadow of doubt, that is the later hardware. So, if you can obtain and load the later firmware (and add the latest map disc), you'll be right up to date with postcode area input, house numbers and compass display.

With regard to the map disc, I'm hopeful that there will be a new release very shortly which will enable TMC functionality. One rumour was suggesting an August release, and on 1 July, the TeleAtlas Sales Manager said 'planning to launch ... later this year'

But they are apparently running late with it as they had licencing issues with ITIS (the TMC data supplier), so caveat emptor and all that - check with Tele Atlas (preferably by email so you have a record!) that any disc they supply you with will support TMC...
