Needless to say the maggot withdrew the arm very quickly and ran off screaming in agony.

Result!
paints a pretty funny picture....a fecking tool running down the street clutching his arm with a dirty great big knife sticking out of it....

"arming myself with ..... ( i better not say as i might get knicked ) "
I hope that doesnt happen to me... I have a "decorative" two-handed broad sword in my lounge!

But on a serious note, I have a good solution that gives me peice of mind, although they take a lot of maintenance... youd have to be crazy to break into my house:

Can sympathise with this kind of bullshit some of you have had, about a month ago I was working in the garage in the early hours and I discover a total tosspot is lurking in the back garden! Bye the time I unlock the garage door and chase after him he has got too much of a head start. So call the boys in blue and give them their due they turn up in about 5mins, fecker gets away unfortunately.

Whole Family is woken up by this point, tried really hard not to wake them, copper in the kitchens radio goes off and my eldest is a light sleeper! Have two young children who were left feeling scared, the youngest who is 4 is still upset by this, one evening we were watching TV and she was walking past the kitchen door when a cars headlights flashed on the window and it totally freaked her out.

Then about a week later with no cars in the drive he turns up again in broad daylight! Climbs over the side gate which is locked and has another go - unbeleivable!

A neighbor who works nights recognises this total tw*t and he will be getting a rude awaking come the New Year as cant be dealing with this sh*t before Xmas.

Bring back corporal punishment for social degenerates!

Can't believe this bull5hit myself!

My family was also shocked by this incident, and the kids still are! They won't sleep properly at night, and are just getting back into the routine now. Like you the whole family was woken up, even though not intended to.

Real shame!

I always keep my car keys and wallet by my bed at night - along with assorted weaponry (including, but not limited to, a claw-hammer, a bayonet and some "war memorabilia" knuckle dusters) ... used to have an English Bull Terrier as an additional "guardian" - a veritable Tiger tank in dog terms (sadly passed away)

just found out my "in-laws" car was stolen in the middle of the day whilst they were in!!.....
one was up stairs the other was in and out of front and back room via kitchen every few secs!....doing the christmas deccies n wrapping

police reckon they must of watched him go out, opend back door and swipped keys......they had only just shafted a cabby right outside the neighbours place...and this is on a saturday afternoon!!!....

my wife's theory is .....if found guilty.....why not use them for drugs/animal testing, save the animals!!.....and get some use out of them as they spend the tax payers money....

I have the very same, however my 5 stone bull terrier is very much alive, willing and very able.

A couple of thoughts for more 'green' security measures:

For the daylight hours, several bee hives located about you property.

The use of pheromones to alert conspecifics or members of a social group to the presence of an intruder or a potential attacker is common in many animal species. For example, in the presence of an intruder, several species of social hymenoptera secrete pheromones which cause defensive behaviour among conspecifics (Maschwitz, 1966). This “alarm pheromone” is thought to have two effects: (1) it alerts conspecifics to the threat of danger, and (2) it acts as a chemical repellent to the intruder. In this manner, the “fear scent” produced by a honeybee worker does not provoke aggression by a predator, but instead functions in hive protection. If an individual worker detects an intruder to the hive, the bee will release an alarm pheromone. Detection of a foreign odour by a honeybee worker may even be enough to elicit an alarm secretion. This alarm pheromone excites workers in or near the hive, and attracts them to the source, and thus to the intruder. The secretion itself does not cause an attack--the attack-producing stimuli come from the intruder, whose behaviour usually guides the attack (Maschwitz, 1966). Therefore, if a person approaches a honeybee hive, his body odour (because it is foreign to the hive) may be sufficient to excite and attract the bees. If the person becomes afraid, and moves erratically, he is likely to be attacked by the bees. So, while smell does play a role in hive defence, the odour which the bees detect is not “the smell of fear,” but more likely is “the smell of something foreign.” And, ultimately, it is visual cues which drive the bees to attack the intruder.

There are not many people who would hang about while 40000 micro Rottweilers are on their arse, and all of that lovely honey...Result.

Also add some 'interesting' pot plants strategically placed for the dark periods, something like Ongaonga - Urtica ferox may be a little extreme but would deter those in the know and educate those that don't...
