Andy - a couple of questions :-
any ideas on location? (central UK, I know)
is it intended that the venue will be dedicated to RS246?

We have a few ideas Clive, still working the figures to check it's feasable, but ultimately we need to know how many of our guys are up for this sort of event. Bit chicken and egg I know, but we hope to tie down a proposed location soon once we have an approximate idea of numbers.
It would be nice to say we could dedicate this just as an RS246 event, and that is our aim, but being realistic we may need to invite other sites to join us - let's see how it pans out mate
Cheers,
Andiroo

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: RS246 Live!
If you want to publicise this event a little more widely why not multicast a 'heads-up' thread on the individual model forums within the site? I guess there will be a percentage of visitors to this site that don't browse the trackdays & meets section for some reason or another - and that includes the registered members who can actually view it.
Make it a 'bulletin' post and link to this thread - you may even get some new people register as members ... and would allow you to cast your net somewhat wider, thereby encouraging a better turnout ..... just a little thoughtlet from my brain/finger/keyboard combo.

Good idea mate - although that was our initial plan, we've decided on a site-wide banner link to go up pretty soon - don't really want to come over too strong on forums, and wanted to keep the 'stickys' clean for forum usersS4TAN wrote:If you want to publicise this event a little more widely why not multicast a 'heads-up' thread on the individual model forums within the site? Certainly be interested...
As you shpuld know by now - if the car is running - I'm up for most things.
I think that this sounds a good idea - if we can get numbers confirmed - but to look on the other side of things - it can still pi55 it down that time of year - see pics from GTI International this year - and also sounds very much like GTI International - but with Audi's.
Saying all that - I would be there hell or high water - willing to help in any way I can - wet dry, sunny or cloud.
Lets get numbers and deposits in - could even try the Goodwood theory - no entry without pre-paid ticket - just a thought..

Andiroo wrote:We are discussing the possibility of arranging a summer event for all users, including friends/family and kids, with a wide range of driving activities to appeal to most, which above all else is fun and safe.
This event will be held at a central UK location, probably on a Saturday or Sunday, in May, June or July.
The proposed events for the day are as follows;
1) Top Speed runs on a long runway.
2) 0-60, 0-100 & 1/4 mile timing & possibly braking tests.
3) Autotest / Handling course combined, set out with cones, with the 'reversing into a pretend garage' part.
4) Tracktime / Sprint. It could be either, depending on what people want. The sprint is one car at a time, so potentially more accessible for first timers.
5) Show & shine / concours running throughout the day, with an awards for best ‘new’ car and best 'classic'.
6) Evening Meal/Awards at a nearby location for a sit down meal, presentation of awards, general good laugh and maybe a drink or two. Overnight accommodation obviously available .
These events are intended to be ideal for anybody who wants to use their car safely for track type activities, but finds the VMAX, Santa Pod & trackdays a little bit daunting and OTT.
We welcome any comments you have on the above idea, including any suggestions you may have on the format itself - especially any other events/entertainment we could include that would make it a better day for you, your friends and family.
Costs for this day are subject to confirmation but likely to be in the between £125 and £175 for car & driver, £ 10 per spectator & £ 20 for spectators vehicles. We will need approx 60 car for this to be viable depending on the venue, and obviously some hands-on help on the day itself.
Hope you guys think this is a good idea and we look forward to your support in making this happen![]()
Cheers,
RS246 Crew.
If Carlsberg held GTGs.......
Sounds like a fantastic idea. Not going to be easy to pull off is an understatement.
With something like this as much as all the organising and logisitcs are tough, member commitment is probably going to be the most likely point of failure. Here's to really hoping we can get the backing we need when the time comes to firm up numbers.
I am definately interested and am hoping it becomes a goer.
My feedback:
Price - no doubt may put some off but sounds good to me considering the range of use we would get out of a venue for the day. Based on the cost of the Prodrive day and VMAX, sounds about right.
1) Top speed runs - love it, so long as run way is long. Needs to be at least the ~1.6 miles you have at VMAX @ Bruntingthorpe for it to work though. Unless folks are seeing 150mph+ action, it's a bit of a let down.
2) 0-60, 0-100 & 1/4 mile timing & possibly braking tests - yes all sounds good. Like the braking tests idea too. More revealing than the acceleration tests I reckon!
3) Autotest / Handling course combined, set out with cones, with the 'reversing into a pretend garage' part. - Always wanted to try this, but perhaps not in the S4. Can't imagine an RS4 handbraking it's way around an autotest course. Of course you dont have to handbrake, but then it might just be like a driving test manouvres test in fast forward?
4) Tracktime / Sprint. It could be either, depending on what people want. The sprint is one car at a time, so potentially more accessible for first timers. - GREAT idea. Would be up for some of that. Sprint sounds a good idea, break the track novices in gently but something the more experieinced can still compete at.
5) Show & shine / concours - always good
6) Evening Meal/Awards at a nearby location for a sit down meal -
Depending on location many of us may need to do an over night to make attending feasable. BUT I generally think it makes the day too long. A day with all that going on people are either tired, their day pass has expired, they need to get back home etc etc. Haven't we seen the evening side of these events generally to have a poor turnout? Not been to any, but this is my perception.
Keeping it RS246 is a good point. If we cant, who would we be looking to invite?
Thinking aloud, luckilly I have only ever attended a well organised track day, the prodrive day which was very well managed and VMAX, which was well run but notably runs well because of the like minded people that go. It doesn't take much to spoil that.
All out of feedback, for now.

On this point, S2forum would be an obvious choice to link up with IMHO - good bunch of guys on there and they normally have a good turnout to the events they attend.
