beep, beep, beep... beep

Post by tjd100 » Mon Dec 10, 2007 10:23 am

any ideas on warning tones - both severe (3) and slight (1) that come with no other indication of fault (i.e dis display)?

Car is very happy apart from these random events - no fault codes, everything checks OK, I really can't figure it out.

Seems to only happen when I've been cruising for a while - but by no means a given. Up the M1 on friday gave nothing, down on sunday and sounded a bit like kraftwerk.

I've retrofitted cruise and replaced the headunit (non-audi) but otherwise standard pre-facelift.

Check the boot for the dead hookers pager .........

sounds like the battery backup unit in the alarm is knackered if you trace the noise it should be coming from the driver's side cubbyhole in the boot

I thought you were talking about the Beep Beep song by Simone White for the Audi R8 advert.....

Silly question, have you got your speed alarms set?

not the battery back-up - the tone is the same as if you were running low on fuel/washer fluid etc - i.e. comes from the dash/centre consul.

My first thought when it started happening was speed warning - but no...

I guess it might be something in the wiring to the warning tone itself - does anyone know the layout?

Have you done a fault scan using VAG-COM or similar?

yes, and all clear - only fault code I've had since owning the car is the one that pops up after disconnecting the battery.

do you mean some confusion due to stereo change? no idea how dis informs you of stuff via the original headunit - but can't imagine it does so by sounding the priority 1 chimes...

I can't help thinking beeps without symbols means a fault in the beeping - but can't find anyone with something similar and no idea of electrics controlling it. Any idea of how to follow the wiring etc much appreciated.

ARHHHH! HELP!

it now beeps all the time - I drove 20mins to Kings Cross and had a sucsession of both single and triple beeps. It's all as in the posts above but can no longer be ignored - it's driving me nuts.

Anyone, please, help... at the very least how do I disconnect the speaker? I know there isn't anything wrong with the car and obviously want to fix the cause but in the mean-time - anything to shut it up.

Does the DIS display not change when it beeps?

How soon after you changed the lights / installed cruise did it start ?

It may be worth reversing those changes out ?
