Suggestion to Crew : How about a new section of the forum entitled "Arguments, Slagging off, and Insults"...?
That way, these 'hardcore' anger management enthusiasts can go off and have their own little slagging match without interfering with the topic of the thread.

Clive, sincerely, you're right and for my part I'm sorry. I was actually trying to add to the thread though.

Good one Andy!
Actually, it was a half-serious suggestion...you know, a sort of 'service to the community'..."Come to RS246.com, the friendliest and one of the busiest Audi sites on the net. But if you fancy a good slagging match, you can do that here too, but only in the Off Topic, Dross Section"...
and then I had visions of the good old Monty Python sketch..."Have you come for a 5 minute argument, or the full half hour"...

Interestingly the boys who own the RR have 911 turbos (did have rs4's) - They said that their 911's are quoted at 420hp, and that's also what their dyno states - if the 911's show all the beans on the dynos, then why don't our RS4's??? Their RS4's (march 2006) also showed between 370 - 380 hp - very similar to the resuts we got. VARSITY suggested that 2006 cars may have been more powerful, these results would seem to suggest otherwise.

If it is the 60/40 split thats causing it (as suggested) then how do they manage to get the claimed figures on the 911's, they have a 60/40 split too.
Also the cooling on the 911's is more complex as they have to be cooled front and rear so you would have thought out of the two cars the 911's would be the harder figure to obtain.
Interesting reading this.
I cannot speak regarding the RS4 on a R/R, however I have used dyno dynamics R/R's before. On my B6 S4, it was quoted by the guys at WRC that Audi's torsen system could lose as much as 25% in transmission loss. Also take into consideration that a 1 degree celcius change in temperature can result in a 5% difference in hp output.
I don't know what sort of system Porsche runs, however petrol is also an important factor The day I went a C4S was on the rollers using 95 RON and they couod not get it within 30% of the claimed output because of the fuel, regardless of what they did.
I'm taking mine to WRC in the next couple of weeks and I will post up the results when I get them. Having just passed the magical 20,000 mile barrier I'm keen to see what output my RS has.

Hi PG. I used to use the WRC dyno in my Evo days and it was very accurate. My standard MR FQ340 was measured at 338 bhp there prior to modifications.P_G wrote:Interesting reading this.

As far as I know, they have closed down although Allan (+?team) still maps ECUs in a different facility.
In the end I found Surrey Rolling Road, who seem to have dynoed quite a few B7 RS4s and I'm booking there in the next couple of days. Will be interesting to see what the figures are as my car also has nearly 22k miles.

Alex,
Just spoken to Chris at WRC and I am booked in for next Tuesday for a power run at Silverstone, so the operation is still going. Don't know about Alan because I didn't ask, but they must be doing OK because they now have a receptionist.
I did speak to Chris though about the whole BHP who-ha and they have experienced the same. B5 RS4's, RS6's etc run pretty accurate to figures but the B7 RS4's they have had output lower than expected. Further to that Audi (UK) have actually been quoted as having said that the B7 RS4 can dyno up to 31% less than quoted stock figures.
I also asked about running the car in 3rd and 5th and he said it could be done, but the 5th gear figures could not be verified because dyno dynamics roads are only rated to approx. 130mph. All the B7's they have run on their road have run lower than OEM quote and he does not know anywhere where the figures have been spot on.

Great to hear they're still going P_G. Chris is a very good mapper and knows the dyno dynamics dyno backwards. It may just be Alan that left.P_G wrote:Alex,

I'm booked in to Surrey Rolling Road tomorrow so will let everyone know re: the results. They're a bit closer to me than silverstone.
I'm thinking 4th gear will be the best gear to try as it allows full throttle opening throughout the rpm range (whereas 3rd gear and below restricts opening to 60% below a certain rpm). Just to standardise things, I will also have it in S-mode and with ESP and TC fully off.
Look forward to hearing about your results next week.
