Post by Dom81 » Wed Nov 21, 2007 4:26 pm

Just wondering (based on current thread) whether there's truth in the Avant = Pipe & Slippers theory??

Hmmm i think you need to re-work the second vote, i.e. 26-35, should be 25-30, then 30-35, I still in my 20s man, makes me feel old lol

Well it appers so far that a) more avants around and b) that the younger avant drivers are almost certainly getting old before their time.

Sedan is the American term for what us Brits call a Saloon.

Just because the Americans then "stole" the word Saloon for a different meaning doesn't mean the rest of the world should follow their ignorance.

Since the language is called "English" I think our meanings are always the right ones and the American meanings (and spellings) are always the wrong ones

Sedan just sounds silly. ;-)

Sedan "an enclosed chair carried between two horizontal poles, common in the 17th and 18th centuries" as per the OED.

Just to put an end to the avant / saloon / what about the cab??? argument - It is obvious that the Avant will always be faster as it has a go faster super aerodynamic shark fin on the roof to provide high speed control, something the saloon hasn't got as its not fast enough!

Right thats it no more arguments its all settled and dont start on colour either as we all know the darker the car the slower it is! Light paint = Light weight = faster car! :biggrin3: :biggrin3: :biggrin3:

cab - no kids
saloon - one nipper
avant - two nippers and a dog

age follows this natural progression
