Insurance for a modified S4 Avant, who's best?

Post by Russboy » Mon Oct 22, 2007 3:42 pm

Now that my Dad has retired he is getting rid of his trade policy so time to get my own insurance.

On the plus side im now 32 and on his policy it states we have been claim free for 6 years so hopefully I might be able to use that to good effect.

Car is a 1999 S4 Avant

Im a publican and the car is parked on the road, but away from the pub.
Mods:

Engine remap
19" alloys
Tinted windows
K&N panel filter
Custom exhaust

Will no doubt cover less than 5k miles a year, some of which are for business, going to the cash and carry or the brewery depot.

Opinions?

Cheers,

Russ

Have filled in their form via the ad here, listed the mods as well so will see what comes back.

Guessing it'll be £1k+ as sainsburys quoted me on a standard car at £670

Greenlight or A-Plan where good quotes for me, but the excess on A-plan was obscene on identically underwritten policy.

They wont even quote me on mine!

However greenlight insurance have come back with £572 which I think is pretty damned good!

Thats with my 27yr old girlfriend on there as well and she picked up an SP30 in Nov too.

Now they know the bhp of the car the quote has gone up a little, 53bhp extra = an extra £20, result!

Greenlight have now come back to me and said that as my 6yrs no claims was on a trade policy its not valid, so basically my new price is based on no no claims bonus, comes out at £1667!!!

So any other suggestions, guess on this basis either they have to acceot no no claims bonus or a no claims bonus earnt on a trade policy.

Cheers,

Russ

Russ, try Admiral. They're the parent co of elephant so you'll get a fairly good price hopefully. My only concern is if they'll insure a mod'd car. I got a 101% "NO" from Elephant. But some people on here have had no probs insuring their mod'd cars with em
01 RS4, Milltek, Dahlback Racing rears, RS6 fronts and a few bits to be added.

Also, as I hate driving, my toy to play with - a Honda CBR F Sport

Admiral (albeit online) have come in at £1220 all mods declared so not too bad. Trying a few other companies at the mo, but need to get it sorted today as the car is parked on private property at the mo, but uninsured so not good.
