Added to the obvious, would you really try that hard if you came up against a Seat (even Cupra)??
I've found that when up against obvious threats (Pork, Scoobs, M3/5's etc) i tend to give it full bananas (conditions allowing), however if i came across a car in the 200-300BHP range, i'd have a play but not push hard, this of course could give rise to a close race or even a loss if the other driver spanked his/her car & was driving a tuned example. It only takes a slight jump from the other car or greater commitment from them to make a really close race, especially on UK roads.

Paz is correct, it seems that the RS4 doesn't produce what it says on the tin. Supprisingly there are many unhappy owners out there who think that they purchased 414bhp and they haven't. Even Audi's own Audi experience cars from Silverstone fall short of the required BHP, by quite alot, however thats just hearsay, need to coer that comment legally!
It will be interesting to see what the RR day shows as far as results go for the B7. Its just a shame that there will be not be a bigger spread of them tuned with confirmed BHP figures from different tuners.
Call me cynical and at the risk of rising to any bait, I do not believe the figures that some tuning companies are quoting for the RS4 B7. This is an opinion based on facts.
Take the challenge and spend a few quid, get your car RR at at least 2 seperate installations. You will be suprised at the results.

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Totally agree, however i would dispute (slightly) the gains vs levels.VARSITY wrote:Paz is correct, it seems that the RS4 doesn't produce what it says on the tin. I do feel the tuners are probably getting their 20-30BHP, however this depending on age/driving style may come from a lower starting point, so in fact a 20BHP re-map on a newer car may only give the end result of say 415BHP, but on a 10K miler this may be 20BHP higher.
I will be getting Awesome GTI to RR my car in December & will see what that shows, as i know 100% that my car is noticably quicker & stronger now than it was straight after she was DMS'd, so i'm curious to see what the puter says.
This also translates to on track, when my lowly RS4 was able to stick close to the rear of Phil's 540BHP RS6+ & Andys 570BHP 996 Turbo.

Paul,
Agreed and will look forward to seeing the results.
However as you will be aware, its not just horsepower that kept you behind Phil's RS6, there are many factors to consider, weight etc.
Although Andy did tell a different story.
Cheers

What was Andy's story?? as we both know the truth. He did tell one or two larger than life storiesVARSITY wrote:Paul,

Granted, he did not have the same level of track knowledge as me, but i was never more than 2 car lengths behind his car for the entire lap & only the 2 longer straightish sections gave him any advantage. In the tighter sections i was glued to his rear end. That said, i would never have got past him unless he'd yielded & a couple of times i dropped back a touch as he was pushing beyond his knowledge/ability.
Point was car vs car & that whether i have 410/420/430 or 440BHP, both those cars with well over a 110+BHP advantage plus masses more torque were able to pull away from my RS4.

When are you thinking of going to Awesome? I may also put my car on a RR and Awesome is about as close to me as APS or WRC. Would be good to hear your Millteked RS as well!W8PMC wrote:I will be getting Awesome GTI to RR my car in December & will see what that shows, as i know 100% that my car is noticably quicker & stronger now than it was straight after she was DMS'd, so i'm curious to see what the puter says.
Not wishing to upset anyone either but I thoroughly whopped a Leon Cupra R a couple of weeks ago ... most satisfying as the driver was wearing a baseball cap reversed on his head (which i detest)
Even better was last week when I savaged a shiny new Porsche CaymanS - so much so in fact that later on, further up the motorway, when i got held up in a gridlock the Porsche driver caught up and came along side, wound down his window beckoning me to do the same - I complied .... his opening question to me, pointing at my car (with a shocked and puzzled look on his face) was: "What the f*ck is THAT!" .... I laughed like a smug <beep> and replied "just an old S4 mate..." Served the guy right as when he first saw me in his rear view mirror he made the grave mistake of waving "bye bye" before booting it ...
My latest scalp was last night on the way back from work - '06 plate Porsche Carrera4S: came up behind him around the 70mph mark .... driver saw me in his mirror and booted it - poor chap gave up after a while - he'd obviously had enough of me staying glued to his rear bumper flashing him to get out of the way ....

Deus ex machina
But then you didn't ever come out for a lap with me did you??VARSITY wrote:It must just be your incredible driving then.
I'll say no more as I wouldn't want to upset anyone, would I?
Only 2 people know the events/outcome of my laps against Andy in his modified 996 Turbo & i can assure you the facts & outcome are exactly as described above, even down to his pure dis-belief at having my RS stuck to his Pork rear.
I do however recall on one lap, he appeared beyond his/the limit & although i went onto the track in-front, i let him pass as i was being un-nerved by his sometimes very late braking, meaning he came within inches of my rear bumper. I then happily followed him & was within a couple of car lengths for the remainder of the lap once i'd let him pass.
The only time he/his car had any advantage was on the F1 track, where for some reason the asphalt & my tyres did not agree with each other (still no idea why). Around Nordschleife he was
Who knows how much was the car, my recently increased Scuderia experience, or my increasing track knowledge, but one things for sure & that's Andy & his Porsche were never a threat around Nordschleife, but the sparring was a giggle none the less.
