RS246 Flyer Design UPDATE ...

Post by Rob_O » Sat Aug 16, 2003 9:30 pm

Took everyone's feedback thus far and incorporated it into an A5 layout. The RSR background was pretty unanimous, so I only did the one this time.

Note the image below is reduced to conserve bandwidth and that the white space (with black outline) represents paper(as if printed). When the flyer is done, I'll simply supply the graphic part ready for anyone to print.

Finally, my apologies to Riz ... didn't even see your thread on doing an A5 flyer mate. I was just catching up on stuff Bushy'd asked me to do and this is completely coincidental. The photo you used is very cool BTW. Seems like I'm always trying to steal someone's thunder ... completely unintentional. Image

Thoughts on what the flyer should say? Taipan's suggestions were included this 'round to give an idea of how it might look with info on it.

Also, this revised graphic could be used for the homepage as a replacement for the current image. I'd just remove the 'owners forums, tuning advice, etc.' and 'join us...' parts.

You might also be curious why the flyer has the vehicles RHD with noses pointed to the right while the homepage graphic appears LHD and point to the left? Well, when I originally did the homepage graphic I thought it "fit" better to have the cars in the same order as the site name; so I flipped the image to be RS2/4/6 then manipulated the photo so badges and such looked proper.

I could do the same for the flyer, just thought it fitting the image was RHD to begin with since most images I come across, even for UK adverts, are LHD native.

Cheers

We will need to alter the text a bit on the right, but looks cool. It needs to convey what we bring to the Audi loving public.
With regards to the layout: it needs to be the same as the homepage IMO.
Can the RSR background picture be shrunk slightly? I think it is such an amazing car design that it needs to be shown properly. From the picture you would only know it was an RSR if you knew the shape well.
Maybe as the RSR is not to be produced, should we use a pic of the Nuvolari?

Top work

Hate to be a stick in the mud, but what about the copyright on the original images used to create the leaflet? We would like to run this image in the Audi Magasine, and don't really want any trouble ......

Not sure about UK law in theory and more importantly in practice (Thorney ?) but if it was in France : since RS246.com is basically a non-profit organisation, I'd be interested in the lawyers' speech to demonstrate how the potential infringement resulted in a financial gain achieved by RS246, how they would valuate that gain in front of a court, what's the damage for Audi and further down what's the capability of RS246 to pay for any penalty (probably could never cover a tenth of the initial legal fees of Audi).

Agree with Taipan ... the image isn't being used to profit from (no financial gain related to use of the image itself), and since it was available in a public domain we can reproduce the image without consent. I'd be glad to give credit for the photo however, and assume it's an Audi press shot ... but don't know that for sure.

Hi RobO

It's looking really good.

Just some minor comments:
Is "Owner Forums" a bit exclusive - doesn't the site want to encourage wannabes too?

Is it worth including something like "The place to be for S and RS Car Enthusiasts"?

I know the website address is at the top of the flyer, but might it be helpful to put the text on the website that's lower down the flyer in a larger font?

Thanks Cobstar ...

The 'owners forum' was taken directly from another suggestion and really meant as a "placeholder" until admin tells me what they want on the flyer.

And perhaps it's not as easy to see on screen, but both of your other suggestions are already in place - i.e., "Celebrating Audi's High Performance S & RS Models" below the cars and "join us at rs246.com" just above them.

Let me know what you need Jon and I'll try to sort it for you. By "one color" I assume you mean a grayscale version (technically two-colors )?
