Wheel is just over £400 inc vat and the tyres are around £257 inc vat. I just had two new ones as the nice man at tyre dept fooked mine when fitting new tyres and dealer finally replaced another after his attempts to refurbish it ended in several flaking areas. Dont get them refurbished, the coating on the original finish wont allow paint to key.

There are several companies around that give the refurb a fighting chance... Pristine in Woburn Sands and another in Kent or Surrey, I cant remember the name... they will strip the wheel back to the alloy, prime, paint and lacquer. I think Pristine have 'agents' all over the country, they also offer an exchange scheme, where your wheels will be swapped for someone elses so you dont have to wait 3-4 days to get your wheels back as thats how long the process takes, not just an hour outside your office with a 'man in a van' it will cost you around £100 per wheel, not the £50 the man in a van charges....

Pristine and Lepsons (Kent/surrey) are the best as far as I know. Both strip all paint off the wheels and repaint using the original manufacturer's OEM methods/paint codes, including final coating so the results are exactly the same as a new wheel and the finish is identical and as resistant to damage. It also costs much less than £400 to do one full wheel refurb.
Timing-wise, it usually takes a day as they do them in batches. Is your tyre also damaged? Why replace this?

Thank youalex_123_fra wrote:Lepsons (Kent/surrey)

P.S. I have also heard that many of the exchange wheels are in fact 'damaged in tranist' wheels from the dealer network, pristine take them off their hands...

I've done plently of research (long story...) and fully support thissimple1 wrote:Dont get them refurbished, the coating on the original finish wont allow paint to key.
I think the rule is that damage caused by a third party (garage, valet, tyre dealer etc.) should always result in a new wheel
If you're paying yourself, Pristine & Lepsons are both highly recommended, but anyone else will probably struggle

I got a quote for refurb for one wheel recently from Pristine and couldn't believe the cost. Price was almost double the cost of an 18". You can buy a new oem one from Europe for about £40 more. I got 4 Continental SportContact 3's fitted to replace the worn pirellis and thought I might get the kerbed wheel fixed.

I had two of my 19" OEMs refurbished by Pristine Wheel via my local tyre fitter. The cost per wheel including delivery, tyre refitting, came to approx £120 per wheel. I have two 19" OEM spare wheels with tyres, so wasn't a problem to swapout the damaged ones.
The were able to provide a match, indiscernible when compaired to the OEM finish.

I had 2 19" alloys on my former E46 M3 refurbed, it seemed to be a good job and they looked as good as new when done but within 3 months the wheels were a mess much worse than before the refurb.

Yep, agree. Similar story with me and Lepsons. Absolutely superb finish and had it 4 months with no issues. I had all 4 wheels switched to titanium colour. Cost was £360 in total if I remember correctly but I didn't have new tyres as my tyres were new anyway. Lepson's owner has a B7 RS4 saloon himself and takes great pride in the work done by them.Krammer002 wrote:I had two of my 19" OEMs refurbished by Pristine Wheel via my local tyre fitter. Sorry I can't recall, it was a firm highly recommended on the BM3W website, I had the wheels done while on holiday (I live in the Scottish Islands) it was around Birmingham somwhere.Krammer002 wrote:Who refurbished them ???jbtco wrote:I had 2 19" alloys on my former E46 M3 refurbed, it seemed to be a good job and they looked as good as new when done but within 3 months the wheels were a mess much worse than before the refurb.
I suspect that it was the amount of winter salt they use here which attacked the laquer they used.

Thanks for advice guys, I have now purchased new wheel and tyre. I did notice that the tyre has been fittd using a standard black rubber valve which does not match the original silver rigid valves. I suspect the tyre fitter has just taken the easy option here. Does anyone know if the silver rigid valves can be purchased from Audi as a genuine part as I want the wheel to match the other originals?
