RS 4 Slow???

Post by SimonFV8 » Tue Oct 16, 2007 11:27 am

Hi Guys

After reading a few threads on here about the acceleration / speed of our beloved RS4's I'd just like to stay I took mine out for a really good blast last night and OMG its quick!

It has just covered 3K miles and it was one of the first times i had an empty country road with no family and a warm car!

Its going in for a re-map and Miltek in the next few weeks so it can only get better!

How can anyone doubt the performance of this 5 seat estate car?? IMHO I could not handle a faster car on the sort of road i was on. Having had very fast cars in the past I am either getting old or this car is seriously quick and best of all the V8 noise!

So glad I went for adaptive headlights!

All I can say is :biggrin3:

The Saloons are even quicker, so i support your point fully.

Mine is over 10K miles & pulls like a train & feels just as quick as my previous M5.

At last!! Well said my friend, I too went for a proper blast the other evening after unnng her in like a nun !! :? She's like a true great and special all-rounder, it comes to life in the high rev range and just keeps pulling! Then you all know this and as for the handling well..... I’ve been fortunate to have driven some quick (but affordable every day) cars in the past including a much loved remapped B5 (previous) bless her and this is so much more in every way. I can’t really still get my head around some of the previous posts about it being slower but put it down to hand brakes being applied and, mechanical or driver problems (such as failure to find start button or perhaps getting in the wrong car! Apparently in Switzerland there’s even a 4 cylinder version!! Long may she reign and god bless all those who ride in her !!

Paul that's really interesting! I've only had mine for 2 days and obviously it's a new lump etc but having had a brand new M5 on demo for a week I wouldn't say the RS4 it was anywhere near as fast. however I know you have a few trick bits done to yours so it's good to know when I've done them that it will be :D
Current car..... hmmmmm????

I've no fact behind what i feel, just seat dyno & how she pulls.

I'm sure the margin between my previous M5 & current RS4 is, if evident only very small & that had DMS magic as well. That extra 100BHP of course is evident to a point, but so is the extra 200KG so it's all relevant.

IIRC t urbo managed to log a 0-60 of 4.2 in his B7 & that like mine only has a re-map (can't recall if he has an aftermaket exhaust?) so they really are no slouch if launched correctly & once they loosen up.

I truly believe that after about 8000 miles, the car unleashes a good few extra ponies & goes from being very quick to just stupid quick, but the beauty is just how usable everday that performance is (if wanted/required).

I totally agree with you there, mine is standard and I can't see me getting to 10/10ths on any roads near me very often (and I live on the edge of the peak district!). 0-60 in 4.8, more torque than you can shake a stick at, handling like a go kart and potential of 190mph!! Are people wanting more being honest with themselves?

Persuading my wife that an RS4 was the right 'family' car was hard enough and the only way i managed to do this was by getting the Avant under the 'practical car' avenue!

Glad you agree with what I have said yes I will get a Miltek and a re-map but only because I can! The only very slight issue I have is redline in first go to second and for a split second I find it a bit 'bogy' which I am assured will be cured with the re-map.

Interestingly the re-map was recommended by head tech at my Audi dealer and Miltek is being done at Audi, by him!

4 cylinder RS4 in Switzerland ?
Never mind, this car is not only very quick in short bursts, but with 7000 kilometres I did Geneva-Monte Carlo in 4hours 15 min. (One stop through Italy and the Alps).
It gets better, like some of us old guys, with time and some mileage.

I'm convinced it keeps doing so the more miles the engine has on. It feels quite a bit quicker now at 20k miles than it did at 16k. Never fails to impress me.

I have covered 4.5K now and at the week end just gone played with a SL500 and a CLS 55, I must say I supprised them with shear grunt, leaving the SL for dead and having a real fight with the AMG, we both enjoyed the brief but fast encounter.

Simon FV8 - which dealer do you use locally? I'm 'twixt P'mth and S'oton and don't know which local dealer to take her to for servicing. As I am considering both the Milltek and re-map, a sympathetic dealer might be worth a chat with first.
