That is bad news mate. :(
Valeter should pay.
With his life!! :D

Nightmare, very soz to hear this. I use a tube of cream from halfords called autosol for the metal surfaces on my bike. Its a very fine metal polish but does not appear to be abrasive at all. If you've decided that your trim's past redemption try this stuff as a last resort. Its not expensive either. This is it here but you can get it in halfords. the one at the top of the page. :D

thanks - will try the autosol as well.

Fear not audijohn, my claim has already been intimated to the valeter's insurers and I will not let them get away with anything less than full compensation. (If the autosol fails I may take the opportunity to have the aluminium replaced by full black optic set - at valeter's expense...)

Is the optics on the window trim achieved by just taking off the chrome trim or is there a black trim that goes on instead?

To be honest, the black trim on the optics pack round the doors is just rubber, and it actually doesn't look too great up close! :D

Theres' nowhere I've noticed that would allow a nice shiny black trim to fit on, I may be mistaken though.

My car is booked in for a professional detail in a couple of weeks. UI have contacted the detailer to see if he can do anything about the marked aluminium trim but he is very doubtful after being faced with the same problem on an A8 a few weeks ago.

Does anyone know of any good Audi breakers? I want to replace the trim but not at the price Audi want to charge me!

autosol is abrasive even though it appears very smooth, try some belgom alu, it's amazing stuff, totally non-abrasive and leaves a protective coating on the ally. i used it regularly on a Fireblade that had a polished frame, left it looking like a mirror, well recommended

Has anyone tried approaching Audi on this and claiming under warranty? I know from first had experience they don't want a bar of it at first though I can’t help wondering what would happen if they were pushed on the issue.
