Rev limiter increase on remap
What could it safely be raised too? I am not talking about raising it to race or anything, but for normal road use when one would use the revs occasionaly to overtake etc?
I know the B5 would safely goto 8.5k odd?>

RE: Rev limiter increase on remap
IIRC, the B7 RS4 was originally bench tested by Audi at just over 9000 RPM, but their was an issue with emissions so they pegged it back to 8150. Most decent maps raise it back to 8400-8500 which i feel is well within tollerances.

Re: RE: Rev limiter increase on remap
Was it just emissions or did I read on here about a problem with overheating?W8PMC wrote:IIRC, the B7 RS4 was originally bench tested by Audi at just over 9000 RPM, but their was an issue with emissions so they pegged it back to 8150. RE: Re: RE: Rev limiter increase on remap
Increased remap to 8.400u/min done by 3rd Party or is it an option from AUDI?
RE: Re: RE: Rev limiter increase on remap
Try getting a new engine (or even a rebuild) from Audi if your motor gets fried and they notice the redline increase.... Never going to happen!!
Great idea, can see deffo see why it would be beneficial, would like to do it myself, but I'm too scared of enormous bills!!

Re: RE: Rev limiter increase on remap
Could well be, as i know that's a problem the test R8's (V8 & V10) have suffered with.alex_123_fra wrote:Was it just emissions or did I read on here about a problem with overheating?W8PMC wrote:IIRC, the B7 RS4 was originally bench tested by Audi at just over 9000 RPM, but their was an issue with emissions so they pegged it back to 8150. As for warranty, i think if you drove the car constantly bouncing off the limiter then you could be loking at trouble or a big bill, but for the handful of times i've been to the limiter (could count on one hand) i doubt this will stress the engine.

Re: Rev limiter increase on remap
Mines raised to 8400 ish but to be honest i dont really feel the benefit of it.Tartan_Rob wrote:What could it safely be raised too? I am not talking about raising it to race or anything, but for normal road use when one would use the revs occasionaly to overtake etc?

Rob
When you change up you are slightly up the rev range so may gain 2 or 3 bhp but real world driving it makes no difference.
I think anyone having a remap would be better off leaving the rev limiter at 8150 rpm.
Re: Rev limiter increase on remap
Not much point in taking a turbo charged car to that level, the turbos would have lost any benifit long before that speed.Tartan_Rob wrote:

Have to say I used to hit rev limiter frequently when it was 8150, since it has been mapped, I very rarely get anywhere near it. Only bonus from increasing the rev limit was that the power curve held on for 200 rpm more

TBH, whether it makes 2 or 200BHP difference, i can spot the longer curve & likewise find i don't often hit the increased limiter, however it's nice to know it's there & does get bounced sometimes.

RE: Re: Rev limiter increase on remap
Personally, I found that at 8,150 I was bouncing off the limiter quite a bit, now I never hit it, I just change gear where it feels right, just over where it was before, but under where it is now...

RE: Re: Rev limiter increase on remap
On limiters, the one that does feck me off is the 7K one as the car's warming up.
I'd never boot it when cold, but a few times i've been a good few miles from home & had a motorway slip road moment, only to bounce off the 7K limiter which then vanshes about 1min later as the car goes over 60 degrees.

Re: Rev limiter increase on remap
The 2.7tt won't rev to 8.5k without spending large sums to strengthen the top end. 7.2k is about the limit.W8PMC wrote:Tis good ya??simple1 wrote:Have to say I used to hit rev limiter frequently when it was 8150, since it has been mapped, I very rarely get anywhere near it. Re: Rev limiter increase on remap
7.4 is stretching it if flow is good, 7.5 definitely gets valve springs to float (tried it on my own car and I hated the sound it made past 7.4k).DavidT wrote:The 2.7tt won't rev to 8.5k without spending large sums to strengthen the top end. 7.2k is about the limit.W8PMC wrote:Tis good ya??simple1 wrote: Have to say I used to hit rev limiter frequently when it was 8150, since it has been mapped, I very rarely get anywhere near it.
