play with 997 carrera s

Post by mobility&lifestyle » Wed Oct 03, 2007 12:39 pm

Had i little play with 997 carrera s.
Sat at some lights behind the porka hoping he would play and he did.
I thought i would be all over his bumper but the 997 was equally as fast, i could not gain on at all.
Anybody with any comments?

Try harder, that & he probably got the jump on you.

Should have been a fair to easy scalp, unless you were towing a caravan

I'm not so sure, the 997 C4s is listed as 0-60 in about 4.8 I believe. Took one out for a spin not so long ago - very nice cars, and alarmingly easy to drive very very fast. Doesn't feel as fast as mine, btu that's because it's not turbod. The stats certainly suggest it is as quick.

Hmmmm. interesting. I've just bought an RS4 and was also looking a a 2nd hand 997 s I test drove both etensivly and found them to be very close on straight line performance and depending on condition would say the 911 is maybe a teeny bit faster with both cars in standard form. So i'm not surprised that with a bit of a jump and maybe more power down from the off that he crept away from you. it can be surprissing. I had a show down with a B6 S4 in my wifes X3 the other night and he couldn't loose me know matter what infact i'd say they were identical performance in a straight line. and that's a deisel 4x4 agaist a 4.2 V8.
Current car..... hmmmmm????

That is most surprising, A heavy Diesel 4x4 could stick with a 344bhp V8 saloon.

Something wrong there surely??????????????????

I thought is was 5.2 for the 4S & either 5.0 or 5.1 for the 2S. Saying that, hardly a vast difference, so if the Pork got the better start (guessing he did as he was in-front, you would struggle to make up the gap.

Also possible he had the "performance pack" although i can't recall what Porsche name it? as this ups the power by IIRC about 25-30BHP, but on road it's meant to be much quicker than stock.

Try harder next time

Defo quicker than i thought then. Who would dare take a Tip over a manual then??

Saying that, is it not the reverse with the 997 Turbo, as i'm sure the manual is over 4secs (just) but well under 4secs for the Tiptronic, although IIRC the Turbo Tip is more a DSG type affair.

Could be getting all muddled up :P

In fairness 1 is a two door sports car, the other a heavy 4 door saloon!

Was refering to the new 997Turbo. Can't work out why the 996 was slower in Tip form than Manual & the same applies to the 997, apart from the Turbo which is quicker with a Tiptronic box.
