Thanks for the offer - as it stands I've taken the car bar to the garage today and they reckon they have the diagnostic equipment to clear the fault so if they can I'll let them, cheaper than taking it to my local dealer to have it sorted (well, free, if they can fix it). If not then I may well be asking nicely to have one of you guys fiddle with the ECU and remove the error... :-)

OK, the garage called me back yesterday evening, said they found two fault codes (one related to overboost) with a fault code reader (I assume not a VAG-COM as it's an independent garage that isn't a VW or Audi specialist) and cleared them, but the boost level still hasn't increased and remains at 5 psi. Will clearing the fault codes alone take the ECU out of limp mode, or does something else need to be done?

I was very unimpressed with being asked qustions along the lines of "Does it feel different to drive?" and "Would it matter to you if it was only running 5 psi boost so long as it's running ok?" - well yes, you muppet, as that's the difference between a 200bhp car and a 320bhp car!!! Get what you pay for I guess, but I didn't think I'd need a performance Audi specialist to change a bloody power steering pump...

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread but need some advice... got the car bar eventually in working order, the car was putting itself repeatedly back into limp mode following the breakdown, until the garage changed what they have referred to as a "boost switching valve mounted on the top of the engine" - are they talking about a boost solenoid? In any event, is it foreseeable that this could have been damaged as a result of the breakdown? Because I certainly had no boost issues before the car broke down (as a result of their cock-up), and the garage have billed me for getting it working again... currently I'm refusing to pay the bill until they provide me with an explanation as to how the problem wasn't their fault... any help much appreciated... :-)

Either the N75 valve or one of the two diverter valves they are talking about.

OK, cool. Is there any way that one of these valves could suddenly fail as a reult of a boost hose blowing off? Or would it already need to be nearly dead anyway? Just strikes me as too much of a coincidence that one of these valves needed replacing immediately after a boost hose blew off due to being fitted incorrectly...

I would say "pay peanuts, get monkeys" but I don't think being billed over £500 to change a PAS pump is exactly cheap... time to find a new garage I think... still, before I argue with them, does anyone know if the damage to the valve could have resulted from the hose coming off under pressure?

do you know exactly what valve has failed/come off..if it was 1 of the diverter valves then i'd say it was due to there lack of experience with this type of car/set-up..if it was the N75 then i think you mite find it hard proving there at fault unless they took it of and refitted it badly..

If garages are charging a monkey for a PAS pump replacement ..... I may go back on the tools again ..... !!!

against yr earlier threads, the oil is a mineral based substance used in the system, i have asked over yrs before as some people commented that its the same as the LHM used in chitroens ..... which is mineral based high pressure oil, but no way would i chance it ....! as a get me home sure... thats it though.
yr N75...? well it could have been on its last legs and all yr intial overboost may have killed it....?
sorry but i would be worried as imolas4uk said .... I would get a health check done at a reputable tuner .... :P
happy dayz .... party ....
