Alarm siren knackered?

Post by Russboy » Thu Aug 30, 2007 7:40 pm

Had a quick read up about the possible failure of the alarm siren, as mine makes no noise when the alarm goes off.

Where is it located exactly, is it easy to change, and anyone know where you can get the replacement part and for how much?

Also any ideas what Audi charge for it, might be able to get one and if it doesnt work back it as my mate works at a dealers.

Cheers,

Is located somewhere near the c pillar at the rear of the car, thats where the noise comes from anyway! Possibly under the rear shelf accessed from the boot I assume.

Russ,

Try doing a search as there is quite a bit of info on this.
Some people have changed the position of the siren unit so that it can be heard better. It is located in the rear off side boot panel behind the opening beneath a small piece of plastic and foam.

It's easy to change: 1 bolt and 1 plug.

It has a battery back up in it which eventually dies. Some people have managed to change the batteries because Audi want a silly price for the complete unit.

Now, I have the opposite problem where the bl88dy thing won't turn off....

Good luck,
John

the "A" at the end of the part number just denotes that it's a modified or upgraded part.

i did some experimenting with a duff alarm a while back. i cut it open and found the motherboard also in a bit of a state as the batteries had leaked so i got a Nimh 9v battery (PP3 style) from RS components and a battery holder from Maplins and tried to wire it direct to the board, unfortunately the board was in such a state that bits were dropping off it. as long as the board isn't damaged there's no reason why it wouldn't work though and only costs 8 quid
