System Too Rich
System Too Rich
Hi guys,
The amber engine management light came on during my short drive home from work this evening. It seemed to come on immediately I gave it some beans around a tight bend, but that may be a coincidence.
When I got home I did a VAGCOM scan and got the following errors:
17535 - Fuel Trim; Bank 1 (Mult): System too Rich
P1127 - 35-00 - -
17537 - Fuel Trim; Bank 2 (Mult): System too Rich
P1129 - 35-00 - -
Does this mean anything to anyone?
I cleared the codes and the engine management light on the instrument cluster went out. I haven't driven it since so not sure if it'll come back on again, I guess if there's a problem it will.
One more thing to add, I've heard about this limp mode that these cars go into. After the light came on I had a feeling that the car was slower, but that might have been in my head. How much slower is 'limp mode'? I mean, it seemed slower, but still faster than most, if that makes sense.
Any useful comments on the above would be welcomed.
Cheers

Isn't limp mode no boost? I've done quite a few miles with the N75 disconnected, and believe me, you'll know when there's no boost!

RE: System Too Rich
isn't fuel trim too rich a sign that the ecu is having to richen the mixture beyond the limit of it's available parameters. could be an indication of cheap low octane fuel, what do you put in it?
could also be an induction leak? sucking in air after the MAF perhaps

Thanks for all your replies guys.
Dave, I try and put V-Power in. The last tank was V-Power from Newport Pagnell Services, the one before that was whatever the super unleaded was at Tebay services near Penrith, and the one before that was Ultima IIRC. So, yes, because I've been away there's been a bit of a variety. In fact, just before I went away I put a full tank of V-Power in and a bottle of NOS Racing Octane Booster, which is supposed to raise the ron by around 8 (for Fighting Torque). The ECU could be doing the electronic eqivalent of asking me 'WTF is going on'?
I'll take the car out this morning and see if the light comes on again and give an update later.
Cheers.

Jarv,
Only just seen this post...so hopefully everything is OK now?
BTW you'll know when you are in "limp home mode", you put your foot down and the best part of bu**er all happens.

Yeah, everything is fine now. Engine management light hasn't come back on at all since I reset it.
