MP3 CD??

Post by W8PMC » Thu Aug 23, 2007 4:37 pm

Tried searching but couldn't spot an answer to this question.

We know that the DNS-E has 2 SD slots for playing MP3 packed SD cards, but given the head unit can obviously handle MP3 format, is the CD Changer able to read & play MP3 CD's??

In my E60 M5, the individual cd-drive could play MP3 CD's however the CD Changer could not :?

Cheers

Paul, if you don't need the NAV DVD in then you can use that slot for MP3 CD's - or so it says in the manual but I haven't tried it yet.

Before anyone asks - MP3 CD ONLY, it won't work with an MP3 DVD even though it's a DVD drive (don't ask me why!).

Cheers. Looks like a no no then, as i always use the Nav so need that disc to remain in situ.

Thought it was a long shot.

I can never understand this. You can buy the cheapest ASDA CD player for £20 and it will 'play a dinner plate' (as the sales guy told me  ) yet hundereds of pounds worth of in car entertainment and we're limited to 'CD audio only' on the 6 CD. Audi missed a trick me thinks.

I was told the head unit would play VCD and MP3 DVD if the TV pack was ordered. Maybe craigyb has further info???

Simply because i spent the time burning some decent Mix MP3 CD's for my M5 when i had that & i kinda hoped i could use them in the RS4 otherwise they'll just get chucked. Also using the burning software i do, it was easy to set the track order onto a CD, whereas i'd need to mess about with different software to do the same on the SD card.

Shouldnt make any difference if they are -r or +r, this information relates to the write format of the disc.
You could probably download a VCD from the web and burn to CD to try it out.
The DVD playback would be interesting, as I have a number of DVD albums already - these should just play in your Sat Nav slot as you have the TV pack, according to my dealer.

Whoever told you that was either halucinating, or a salesman with zero product knowledge ...

I knew it was a salesman ....

He's talking total and utter rubbish! It makes no difference at all whether you have the TV tuner or not.

The RNS-E will NOT play any sort of DVD except for a navigation DVD, neither will it play any sort of video CD.

All it will play is audio or MP3 CDs, navigation update CDs and navigation DVDs. That's it.
