Cruise control not working?

Post by Halesy » Tue Aug 21, 2007 1:53 pm

Hi all,
Picked up my 6 at the weekend and have been completely inseperable since then. Not been silly with it just yet cause it's got a wafty DRC for the moment but the kindly fellows at Eurocarparts are on their way to resolving that - for those looking they're about the cheapest i've found for the Bilstein PSS9 kit (£1000+vat collected) and have got someone in-the-know to fit them when they arrive.

Have noticed a couple of issues with the car that i thought i'd put to those who might've come up against them in the past. Firstly the cruise control doesn't seem to want to work, have followed instruction to the letter, to no avail - fuse is bunched with various lighting panels etc. all of which are working so assume thats ok? Also the menu button between the front seats doesn't do anything? Could this be linked? Quite annoying cause the tyre pressure sensor has been turned off and pings each time i start the car! It had just had a new gearbox before i bought it and wondered if it could be that the boys didn't reconnect properly? If so its under warranty and can go back.

Apart from that its a hell of a motor - real Q car, can't wait for the suspension to be well so i can really discover the true handling.

Sorry I can't help except to say that when my pressure monitor is off it doesn't ping - mine was off when I bought it and I only realised by playing with the menu.

The cruise is dead easy to use so unless the slider is physically switched to off it does sound like something is amiss.

Just a thought, are you pressing "menu" or the round knob? It took me ages to figure out that you have to actually press menu as I didn't have the RS6 manual.

 feeling pretty silly, i've got the manual and obviously skimmed over that bit! Thanks, tyre issue sorted!

I have the same problem with the menu button between the front seats and despite reading the manual (a bit difficult in German) I can't see what the button is for. Can anyone give a quick idiots guide to using it? :-) many thanks

one other point. In my Avant, the ABS light comes on if I make a very tight turn - does anyone else have this problem? Ignition needs to be switched off to clear it.

1. With the ignition on, press "Menu" (the bit that's lit up "Menu" by your handbrake when your lights are on) - just above the knob. The Drivers Information Screen will change to the menu.
2. Use the round knob to navigate the menu, pressing down on the knob to make a selection.

There are several options to do with display settings, speed warnings, tyre pressure etc.

that is a bona fide fault, could be as simple as a flakey wheel sensor - but a fault code would have been logged and would tell you more. if you don't have vag-com, then dealer time. pays not to sit on brake faults...

Thanks. The guys who fitted the 'box suggested the same. Will find someone locally who has the equipment. Any ideas for the Kent area, anyone? Trying to steer well clear of the main dealers who "...haven't heard of any significant problems with the RS6 DRC's" and that "...the reports are wildly exaggerated by the online forums" but would gladly look at mine for std labour charge - yeah right!
