great day had by all..apart from fluffing a few gear changes the M5 was off the line like a missile...
blew the monaro away nailed the merc and had the TVR big style..
me and jarv had a good run..i pulled away from the line in front but missed 4th gear and he crept about a car's lenght past me..
my best time was 28.5@143.9mph not bad for a beemer that weighs almost more than my house..

Hi Clive,

Really sorry that you couldn't make it in the TTR. You should have jumped in the RS4 and brought that. A few people who's cars didn't make the day did that. When I looked at the results of the first three races at lunchtime, I could have sworn I saw a time for you in your TT, I must be going mad.

Anyway, it was a great day with some pretty special cars on the runway. I was pleased with the way my times improved, but as it's a 3/4 mile standing start drag, there's little to compare it to other than the other cars of course (the organisers decided in the end not to time the 1/4). My engine is completely bog standard 380 brake and my times and terminal speeds for my 4 runs were:

Race 1: 29.31 seconds 139.41 mph
Race 2: 29.23 seconds 138.98 mph
Race 3 29.03 seconds 139.54 mph
Race 4 28.37 seconds 144.31 mph

I thought my third run was about the best I could get out of the car, but clearly it wasn't as the 4th one was considerably quicker. It was against s4woody's M5, and tombs reckoned that's what fired me up, but I reckon it was also to do with the temperature dropping considerably and me not bouncing off the rev limiter as much.

As for the other cars, I believe that fastest car of the day went to a porker with a Noble second, but we'll have to wait for the results to be published on the FT website to confirm that.

Sorry for the DP, just checked the FT website and the results have been posted.

First was a Noble M400 with 23.49 seconds at 173.20 mph, second was an Ultima GTR with 23.80 seconds at 165.51 mph and third was a 997 turbo with 23.94 seconds (not sure of the terminal, it just says 1.87).

Hi Guys,

It certainly was a great day out.

My diesel 335d did me proud posting a best of 27.68 at 143.52mph.

There was some spectacular machinery there and none of the cars attending were disgraced.

Roll on next year and thanks for doing the forum proud.

Jules.

Nice meeting you guys on Sunday - I had to leave after only my second run with a false alarm from a pregnant wife....

The thing I found in only two short runs is RS6 is not a drag car - far more suited to VMax where it can stretch its legs - I had a great time anyway but gutted I never got to improve my times or try the MX5's

See you next time

Scott, we were worried you'd got to such a speed that you ended up in a different dimension!
Really good day out, good to meet up with Scott and Jarv , really nice guys.
Jules, I didn’t realise you were a member on here! Your 335d was very impressive, raised a lot of eyebrows I overheard loads of surprised comments from the guys standing around me.

Very impressive aray of cars and I must admit I had a soft spot for the Ultima and GD with the LS2 engine championing the Kit Car industry. The Noble that came first was extremely tuned so it’s no wonder it ran with such good times and speed.

I’ve got a few images and videos of S4woody, Jarv & Scott which I sort out later today.
Cheers Tom

The spec is standard apart from a remap so approx 350bhp and 510lb/ft (the car is 6 weeks old but I have clocked up 4500 miles).

There was another RS4 there (Noggy Blue), that was also running a remap (420bhp?), we had two races with me outlaunching him on both, but after around about the half mile mark he started to edge in front and would pip me by a car length or so.

Cracking day out.

Jules.

I haven't gone back and checked, but wasn't the RS4 in question's best run quicker than the M5's best run - which I assume wasn't the one with the fluffed change - which kind of implies that the fluffed change didn't really matter in absolute best performance terms. However, IIRC it was so close, I'm impressed with the E39 for sure!

i only ran with the RS4 once and yes it was his best run and yes i did fluff the gear change..now on paper it was quicker but the distance he past me by was the time spent looking for 4th gear..

The 335D made a good showing, wasn't that faster than your M5 Woody? Though looking back to the top you had him on top speed, JUST!
