Finally did the Exhaust

Post by natedog » Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:00 pm

Well it was a long day for me yesterday when I took the trip down to see the guys at QSTuning for the full Milltek and sports cats.

When I got there, they got the car up on the straight up on the ramp, they also let me have a good look under the car and everything. After a good chat I left to go get some breakfast. A call back to QS just before lunchtime gave me the news I did not want to hear, that a couple of the bolts had not come out 100% and that they were going to have to maybe drill them or or something, but they said they were working on it, an with any luck it would all be sorted but if not it would be an engine out to sort it. My heart sunk when I heard this.

So after a very long lunch and getting myself ready for would could be an engine out job. I get a call around 4pm to say it was good news and that they had sorted it all out. We start making our way over to collect the car, when we turned up the car was out the front with what could only be described as some BIG exhaust pipes now replacing the somewhat small standard ones, after a quick chat the visa card gets hit with the bill. Kim then hands me the keys back, now time to start the car up and go for a good drive back home, I hit the M23 and all seems normal, then I floored it and wow the pickup was amazing and the noise... so all in all a great time and a great exhaust system. Now if I can only hold off on the chip

Just wanted to say a big thank to Kim and the team at QS Tuning for looking after me and doing the business on the RS..

Hopefully I can get a listen to one at the meet on the 19th - that should convince me one way or the other. I have to consider that I want to export the car to New Zealand also though, so it need to be OK for registration there with one.

Apart from a decent re-map, a full Milltek with Sports Cats on an RS6 is truly a fabulous mod.

I had the same scenario of stuck bolts on mine when AmD fitted my Milltek & to make matters worse, as i'd had the cat-back fitted a few months before the sports cats & downpipes, Milltek had changed the design so the front section was about 2" too short to meat with the back section.

A good result however, as Milltek said they would supply the new cat-back system that would marry up with the new front end FOC & AmD had one in stock, so i was very lucky.

Yeah, the full Milltek is as far as I need to go after my remap, and as I am told I have a partially blocked offside pre-cat it would almost be silly not to.

I had the same problem when I had my cats fitted ... one side came off fine but on the other 2 bolts refused to budge ... I saw the mechanics battered hands as proof. I suppose its quite understandable given the amount of heat the exhaust system must see. A week later after much drenching in WD40 the bolts finally gave and I was able to pick it up again.

What cell cats did Kim fit for you - 100 cell or 200 cpsi? No reason for asking other than curiosity.

I'm amazed you had the will power to just do the exhaust and not the remap as well ... not tempted by some Bimoto's whilst you were there?

Rich.

I really like the idea of a new exhaust but would need to hear one in the flesh! Less than a handful of 6's in Norfolk

A remap is a custom "chip" , it is done to suite your car and the level of tune . mine had a "chip" but MRC managed another 28bhp by a quick remap .
When i get the car sorted they will remap it again.
