Audi Customer Srvice RS6 Cambelt Change Recommended Service

Post by FlyRS6 » Tue Jul 31, 2007 6:39 pm

Phoned today due to regular ambivalance on whether RS6 are due at 40k or 60k service.

Very helpfulf CS operator who said would ring me back once had the info.

he rang and said NEEDS A CAMBELT AT 3YRS OR 90K WHICHEVER COMES 1ST

MY CARS ONLY GOT 29K ON AND THOUGHT THIS SERVICE IS OIL AND FILTER BUT NOW WONDER IF SHOULD HAVE A CAMBELT SERVICE WHICH SEEMS A BIT EXTREME ON AN 04 29K CAR

SHOULD I IGNORE THEM AND IF SO WOULD IT VOID WARRANTY IF CAMBELT WENT?

Seems to be a great deal on this website re the Cambelt service. I played safe when i bought my 2003 with 28k on it. I chose to have it done, better safe than sorry esp if you are concerned about voiding you warranty.... Just my 2cts...

FlyRS6,

a couple of recent threads for your perusal.

90k that cannot be right?

I am having my cambelt replaced in a couple of weeks 54 plate 19k, seems to me the common view (and Audi's, confirmed by my dealer) from what I've read that its 40k or 3 years, as others have said, it's only a small rubber belt, although v expensive, it's MUCH cheaper than a new engine.

(90k that cannot be right?) Its not...40k or 3 years between belt changes....and make sure your water pump is also done whilst there.

I had the belt and the extras grizz mentioned (apart from the thermostat) on my 53 plate with 32k on it this month. Why take the risk? 3yrs/40k is the most common interval from the pic 'n' mix times Audi usually give.

The information I was given ONE WEEK AGO from Audi CS is "60k miles or 4 years".
To get this information they used the chassis number, which they promise will give the most up-to-date information. They said the dealer's system will agree with this if they use the chassis number to check their system.

This is for my '04 33k mile car.

Good luck with the Audi random number generator, they use the same system to generate quotes for services :)

Did mine at 40k / happened to be around 3 years as well. There's a post somewhere about how much it all cost - make sure you know what they think they are doing as the random number generator works for which bits get done and how much it all costs.

Good Luck.

My USA users manual requires that the timing belt be replaced every 35k miles.

I bought my RS6 with 105k km in Switzerland. The Audi dealer told me that the cambelt is due every 90k km. I saw in the handbook that it says every 60k km. I asked him for confirmation and I have an official confirmation that it is every 90k km now. The car is under guarantee so if something goes wrong I feel protected. If I can extend the guarantee next year then no cambelt until 150k km. Hope that helps!

it looks as though initially audi were very cautious on this issue and have now, based on analysis perhaps, revised the numbers.
