VIN plate sticker Black or Silver?

Post by davidtimson » Tue Jul 17, 2007 1:31 pm

Hello!

the site seems to be updated now so all functions are enabled there fore I have started this post here, apologies to the "I got one" thread as I jumped in at the bottom.

I have been looking for an RS6 for a while and the VIN plate doesn't seem to be a plate but a sticker and seems to be in 2 different colours, either Black or Silver. Also the BCY number on the sticker seems to be BCY1417, is this not the engine number as according to HPI/V5 this should be another BCY number but only located on the block itself.

ANY HELP IS MASSIVELY APPRECIATED as I am about to part with my hard earned cash and just want to make sure I'm getting the right thing. Everything else in terms of service history and Vin numbers etc all checks out, just this niggling sticker colour/engine number question.

Massive thanks in advance

If all goes well will post pics and spec etc later in the week.

The BCY1417 element helps a treat as this seems to be the same on all on the VIN stickers and the fact its a sticker, this car is a 52 so if anyone has a 52 with a black sticker you will completely put my mind at rest.
Thankyou

No worries David,

What makes you so suspicious about the car?? I never even thought about checking these things out - Surely a HPI check would tell you if its a genuine car or not???

Cheers,
Lig.

David, I've just checked on my 52reg and the VIN plate on the off-side wheel arch is black.

Nothing suspicious at all, the HPI check was perfect just hadn't seen a sticker instead of a metal plate with VIN details before and the fact the colour varied also made me wonder! Everything checks out and have spoken to the Audi garage who orginally sold it and all is good. Off to go and collect it now actually so sure I will be reporting in very soon. thankyou for the input.

yep, picked her up yesterday and very pleased. Sorry to do this but just another quick question as you guys are bound to know.

the front disks are not drilled but the rears are. Is this normal? Also the fronts are a little squeally but I have read that this can happen and just need the pads out cleaned up and a bit of copper grease. What do you reckon?

When I bought my RS6 from Brighton Audi, it had the same set up with the discs. The cheeky blighters had replaced the fronts as they needed doing and put the un-drilled ones on.

Fair play though, they upgraded them to the drilled ones for free as part of the purchase.

Theres nothing normal about an RS6  The RS6 came with Vented discs (not cross drilled), and the RS6 Plus came with vented and cross drilled discs. Obviously the front discs wear at a far greater rate than the rear, a previous owner has decided to change to cross-drilled when the rears were last changed, not essential but a nice to have, when changing your fronts next (get saving  ) I'd go for cross drilled and have a nice matching set.

On the way back from Wales the pad warning light came on so I have just replaced them and have plenty left on the disks so they will be staying for now but probably will get drilled when they need doing, and also remortgage my house to be able to afford them!!! he he he.

there are other options available aftermarket that are less expensive - if under warranty the dealer will dictate like-for-like though.
