I am so with you on this one, every day I sit on the m4 with these numnuts sitting in the middle lane completely oblivous to the 5 mile trafiic build up behind them the've caused !! Ive become over the years quite the perfectionist in my gesturing once i eventually draw up level with them!!

Why not use these big signs that cost joe tax player to say something useful like " get over to the left, pond life or your be shot"! rather than tell us to slow for a accident that was cleared up some 3 days ago!!! Funny thing is it causes over 70% of all traffic issues on the motorway apprentlly true !! yet you never hear any thing on radios etc and everyone I mention it to denies its them !!!! grrrrrr

They are a useful means of making you impatient and exceeding the speed limit out of frustration, thereby putting you at further risk of being caught by the governments lucrative 'safety first' cash machine.

You should try driving on the A34! 2 f*cking lanes all the way from Oxford to Winchester (my journey to and from work) - the amount of women who drive in the "fast" lane at 60mph with miles of empty road in front of them totally oblivious to the fact that there is someone behind them - GRRRR! Infuriating. I'm forced to undertake them all the time, then they have the bloody nerve to give you the V's or the finger for undertaking .... AAAARRRGGGHHH!

And don't even get me f*cking started on lorries ....

I habitually do the undertake in cases like this. Undertaking is against the law, but the Highway Code does say that if the traffic in the outside lane is moving slower that your (inside) lane you may pass them. I know it applies to slow moving queues of traffic, but there is no definition of "slow moving". A cop friend of mine always suggested approaching at speed from behind (i.e. drop back a bit) and then give them two distinct double flashes..it always seemed to work when I tried it. The alternative is to get hold of that relay that makes the lights flash alternately!

Personally, I feel that they should legalise undertaking with a good advertising campaign ahaead of it's introduction - then every driver should be aware that they could be overtaken on their inside. If they don't like it...then can eiterh hand intheir licences or move over. In fact, I'm going to see if I can post a petition on the Downing Street website. Will be back later.

And here was me thinking that we were all supposed to drive in the left hand lane and use the right hand lane(s) for overtaking when required (and safe)... Silly me.

Like Jeremy Clarkson said on Top Gear regarding the practice of "undertaking", if there's room to undertake, then there was room for the person who was undertook to have pulled in because (s)he wasn't overtaking anybody.

I also love those that overtake 1/2 an mph more than the car/lorry they are overtaking (or sometimes slow down mid-overtake). Either overtake or don't; there are times I wish I was driving a hummer.

Its a really bad problem in england but i find driving everywhere with my headlights on helps a lot as they see you a long time before you get behind them.

This never happens at night as people are more aware of who is behind them.

And then there are those who slow down to 65 when they see a police car and won't overtake it. Even worse when it' s Highways Agency van!

a few years back the government were considering making undertaking legal but it got quashed. it actually went to a vote.

surely laws are made to seperate right from wrong so if it's so wrong to undertake why were they even considering it in the first place
