Good start to the day - Autocar
RE: Re: funny
**SPOILER**
I've just read the article - no way is it the closest twin test ever
"In virtually every other department , however, the RS4 is as good as, if not better than the M3, and in the end it grinds the M3 into submission simply by being faster, roomier, better looking, more communicative... you name it, the RS4 takes it..."

Yay, I decided on an avatar!
I'm pleased to hear this news (obviously) but I still have a lot of respect for the M3. I'm sure it's a great car.

RE: Re: funny
See a couple of people above are comparing the M3 CS to the RS4, shouldn't you be comparing the standard M3 rather than the CS version? Like for Like an all that.......
Basically & let's be honest here, as much as I've admired the M3's the E92 version is just a step back and the E46 was is their best modern day M3 to date......IMHO.....

RE: Re: funny
Hmm, since I was so disapointed with the RS4, the new M3 will be a real disaster for me and low end Porsches are just soooooo slooooooowwww. I have a sneaking feeling that C63 AMG will be the next undisputed performance King in this sector.
RE: Re: funny
Maybe... I'm not overly familiar with the AMG line but from what I've read they're a bit over-powered for what the chassis and transmission can effectivly handle. Also, aren't they generally automatics?
Maybe the new c-class will be engineered for huge power, and if so could be an amazing car...

The C63 AMG will be a fabulously powered car, smooth, quicker, refined, comfortable and lots of gadgets......
Just for gawds sake don't drive it in the wet or anything other than a very straight road

Re: RE: Re: funny
TBH, this appears NOT to be the case with the brand new AMG cars. No idea on the C63 as it aint out yet, but i took (see caned) an S63 AMG round Millbrook proving ground on Monday & not only was it blisteringly quick, but feck me did it handle well. This was an S Class, the rear passenger compartment was bigger than the lounge in my 1st houseberry100 wrote:The C63 AMG will be a fabulously powered car, smooth, quicker, refined, comfortable and lots of gadgets......

Conditions were dry but i still managed to get the back out a good few times & it snapped back perfectly, the wet may be tricky, but then it's tricky in the M's as well.

Exactly my thoughts, I was wondering what the running in procedure was. I fully intend to do the 4Krpm thing then slow build up not just jump on it.... I did it in my M and the engine was always very strong.

Although these things are subjective and a matter of taste, that's 2 reviews out of 2 so far in favour of the RS4. Other reviews I've read on the new M3 have not been that complimentary! I suspect they are less dodgy than you think...... Just accept it, BMW have not made the M3 most of you beemer fans were hoping for.marin wrote:haha! you guys love the review. Yes is a good review but it doesnt make sense logically. I think you forget that they wrote previously that the e46 M3 CS was better than the RS4... Have BMW gone a step back with the E92 M3? I think not. Another dodgy review. Dont you think so?

Lots of debate on running in and not too much agreement. You might find this interesting:mip wrote:LOLaudijohn wrote: Just my 2P, if you give the RS4 engine a good warm-up before to try to break it, you will find it much improved over the M3, I would give it a 1000 Miles before pushing on but thats me (kind old fart).

http://216.219.217.96/break_in_secrets.htm - an account of how quick break-in might work
http://www.rc51.org/breakin.htm - this talks about bikes but the general principles do transfer to car engines. A gentler method
I would personally also take into account what the manual says as the people who make the engine do know a thing or two. Having said this, you are unlikely to harm the car if you warm up properly prior to using the full rev range even in a very young engine.
Not sure how the previous owner broke my car's engine in, but he's done something right because it doesn't seem to use any oil. Feels significantly quicker than the demonstrator I drove which had 3k miles on (mine has 17k and still keeps getting better).

RE: Re: funny
Alex, I have covered just 2000 miles now using full power now, burns NO Oil and is much quicker than the demo I tried with 5K on the clock.
