knocking noise when turning.
jsut heard something strange
when turing whilst the steering is tight the car is making a knocking noise more creaky...what could this be may it be to do with the stearing rack ??any common faults?

RE: knocking noise when turning.
Never herd any reports on this, mine is quiet all the time.

Hi, I just posted a similar message on my RS4 Saloon. It's driving me insane. Check my post updated today under Saint. One forum member suggests checking the knuckle carrier!
RE: knocking noise when turning.
Note, the manual sais dont leave the steering wheel at full lock for more than 15 seconds or damage can occur to the steering. Not sure what, but some input anyway.

Do you have it in the dry or just in the wet?
Is it almost like the drive is worn and cracking every rotation?

Yeah mine does this and also my old CSL. It is more apparent to me on block paving. I don't think there is anything to worry about as I believe this issue came up on an earlier thread and all seemed okay.

yeah it did it in the wet.... but it doesn't happen all the time only sometimes .....i thought it was the tyres rubbing against grit on the ground but then i did on tarmac and then on my drive which is block paved and it didn't do it there.....its only apparent when the stearing is tight if you know what i mean as the stearing becomes looser when at standstill....and then its not apparent at all...
lets seee if it becoems worse then hope its covered under warranty....

Does it do this going forwards as well as when reversing under lock? I would get it checked ...may be a rack issue.

Hi there,
1st post, picked mine up a few weeks ago and drove 1500 miles through Europe, what a drive!!
Anyway recently I have had the same problem. Can anyone please tell me what the dealers did to cure the problem and what the problem was?
Its the same noise if I am moving or stationay. I have still got a yrs warranty left but its a bit scary so soon into ownership.
Would appreciate all your views!

Below is what I put in the other tread about this noise
I had the same in my S4 and the dealers couldn't sort it out so I did it myself by replacing the front anti roll bar bushes, job done.
It was the first thing that I told Audi to do but they knew better and changed the steering rack, compleat suspension front and back(by compleat I mean everything from dampers, springs, arms the hole lot)they also replaced the subframe. Now what did all that cost to replace?
It cost me £20 and some beer tokens
