I think we can also see this for what it is (above comment) and at the end of the day should be applauded IMHO.

Think Awesome GTI should be included based upon the selection that currently exists.

Although I think what I would call a proper car tuner practically does not exist any more, how may of these outfits listed above do the following work in house (in no particular order):

1. Machining
2. Dynamic balancing
3. Crack testing
4. Flow cylinder heads (preferably with a flow bench)
5. In house development of components / engines / systems
6. Have an engine test cell – dynamometer
7. Etc…

In the old days there were tuners you could go to who had this sort of set up, regrettably very few of these still exist, most have turned away from road cars and are involved in race car development.

Leaving a vacuum predominately being filled by organisations I would not allow to fix my washing machine! They (I am not referring to the above organisations) are not tuners they are nothing more than ‘off the shelf parts fitters’ supplying technology designed, engineered and developed by others (and then made in China at low cost) for the ‘Max Power’ generation.

The car enthusiast forums are full of posts by guys who have spent a small fortune on their car, only for it to either brake down or blow up in their face soon after being so called ‘tuned’!

So perhaps we should refer to this in future as two distinct categories, the ‘off the shelf parts fitters’ should be referred to as ‘Modifiers’ and the hallowed name of ‘Tuner’ should remain to be bestowed upon individuals and organisations who have truly earned the name?

I used someone else, but i'm sworn to secracy.

Used AmD back in my RS6 days & swore by them, however me thinks things went a little leftfield a couple of years ago.

Just wondering why Jabbasport aren't mentioned in the poll??

They are a serious tuner and have done a lot of development work, even manufacturing their own designs for Audi racing units. I've had a full rebuild to 1.9 replacing pretty much everything along the way and they did a good job of it.

I also believe their remapping is up there with the best, just look at the power gains achieved from a visit to their rolling road. I may sound a little biased but to not mention them at all seems a little strange....

dont think they are too big on S4s though..... everything 1.8T but I havenet heard on one person on this forums that has gone to Jabba.... Given most of the people on here have S4s or RS4s, its not surprising they arent mentioned.

This is one of the reasons I hate polls. For sure having a discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of tuners is fine, but focussing it on choosing "the best" is a bit pointless in my opinion (and that's my opinion as a regular member, not as crew). The main reason is that defining "the best" is both subjective and objective, and there are very few people who have had experience of enough of the tuners, and to the same level, to be able to give a worthwhile answer.

Just my 2 cents. Have fun...

Spot on. I used them on my 2nd TT225 Coupe a good few years ago & back then, they only tuned the VAG 1.8 4-Pot & unless that's changed, i can't see them being a big tuner in RS246 circles.

That said, back then the gains they achieved were better from just a map than AmD & MTM could manage. Not sure if that's good or bad, but most tuners were only getting 260ish BHP & Jabba often achieved 275-280. Was a cracking car & had loadsa fun.

Just a minor point really, but you should have a 'Don't know' category.

I have yet to have mine remapped, I hope to take it to Banbury later this year, but I can't say, from personal experience, whether they are any good, but I would like to see the results of the poll.
