VAG-COM wont save codes to module (RNS-E)

Post by Fen » Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:54 pm

Tonight I got the car back from being remapped (much more fun now) so I plugged in my new (genuine Ross-Tech) VAG-COM cable and fired up the latest software.

No connection issues and I can read codes fine, but for some reason it won't save any changes I make - there is no error or anything, it just does some stuff after I press "Do It" and then shows the old value in the soft coding box.

Am I doing something wrong? I guess I must be.

I've looked at the manual on the Ross-Tech site and it doesn't really say much suggesting it's as simple as changing the code and clicking do it - I also managed to get my doors to lock themselves when I drive off last week using the free download and a cheap eBay cable, though I didn't think it worked then the next morning it was doing what I wanted.

I'm trying to code the RNS-E by the way - mainly to get the BT module to function fully.

What version VAG-COM are you using? The RNS-E needs at least version 5xx and since you've got a genuine cable you should be using the latest (704.1) -it's a free download from the Ross-Tech website.

I's the latest as far as I know - I haven't checked the version number (and can't until I get home) but I only downloaded it on Tuesday and it says there are no updates available for it. I *think* I downloaded the version 704 linked to my interface (Hex+CAN USB) on the Ross-Tech website.

Bizzarrely it had coded during the time I had left the car - just like it did with the locking. Do you have to leave it for a while to take effect?

I still can't code the nav system adaptation 136 to 2362 for Euro RHD. It was 3662 for Euro LHD and I managed to set it to 00013 for US RHD so the lady speaks from the correct side, but the save button isn't available for the high values - any pointers?

Also my BT module says something in German on the DIS when it's telling me its status - any clues how to code that to English?

I found a list of codes for the BT module http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.p ... torder=asc , but unfortunately when I try to connect to 77 Telephone the controller isn't found. Is there somewhere eles apart from the RNS I need to tell the car it has a telephone so VAG-COM can see it.

The codes you are using 2362 and 3662 only apply to early RNS-E software versions. For later versions you use the same codes as the US software 5 and 13.

So the 13 you have used is the correct value.

Sounds like one of two things:

1) either you don't have the K-line connected to the BT module (that's needed for coding on an A4); or

2) your BT module has come from an A3 and is coded for CAN diagnostics only. In that case you'll have to take it out, put it in an A3 re-code and then put it back in your car.

Excellent, thanks. I suspect option 2 is the more likely (I connected 5 wires?) Bummer really as I don't know anyone with an A3 well enough to borrow it, especally if it has to be a fairly recent one with BT or at least the option of BT.

If its a brand new unit then it will be un-coded (all zero's), but if its 2nd hand, then it may well be out of a A3, and like Dave has said will need coding.
