Mitcheline Tyres
Mitcheline Tyres
I accidentally found a side wall fracture/ bubble on my Mitcheline 255/35/19 Pilot sports on my wife's RS6 last week.
Closer inspection identified another 2 damaged tyres. I had one changed a year ago for the same.
So 4 tyres in one year. Obviously my wife did hit a pothole or two... I did it myself. However driving the same road on Bridgestone SO2 on my RS4 caused no damage at all (265/35/18 ) (No problems since the soft rims got fixed 4 years ago)
I called my tyre guy (he sees all kind of tyres with the same problem and thinks I was just unlucky) Audi ( Yes Mitchelin is more prone for this damage as it has a rim protector but it is a great tyre)
The dillema is : is there anybody else out there with the same experience?
I am lucky that I have found the damage before it blowed out and potentially killing my family. (Safety issue)
Any comments?
ps I have Smartyre pressure monitoring on both cars and the pressure is 40 psi cold on the RS6 and 42 on the RS4 ( the wife does not like a harsh ride)

On a related note, how good are the new Pilot Sport Cup 2s? I know the old ones were unsueable in the wet, what about the new ones?

RE: Mitcheline Tyres
I had both rear tyre's pop on the inside wall a while back (both were michelin ps2's iirc, thankfully one was at low speed and the other was while it was stationary just after i'd checked the preassure's and topped it up a bit. these were on 225's

RE: Re: Mitcheline Tyres
The 42 is the result of the original RS4 soft rim fiasco. I just haven't recovered yet. Tyre wear is totally even and I did not bend a rim since I have dropped the soft ones.
RE: Re: Mitcheline Tyres
Apparently Micheline will give pro rata subsidy on the 3 damaged tyres.
