I tried a cheapo Vagcom cable with my 'special' version of Vagcom, but the software recognises that the cable isn't genuine so doesn't give you full functionality. Think the real deal is the best way forward.

If you don't buy it you will never develop the nervous paranoid "twitch" which accompanies every scan for fault codes or experience the feeling of relief when you see the "no fault codes found" message!
Seriously though it is a good bit of kit.
It will tell you things about your car you may not want to know but at least then you have the option of fixing them.
You can also assist fellow motorists and piss them off too!
